Donald Trump on Thursday night attacked the embattled governor of New York, Andrew Cuomo - saying he has 'got real problems' and faces an uncertain future.
The former president was speaking at a Republican fundraiser for the state party, held at his Briarcliff golf course in New York. The speech was attended by Trump's former lawyer Rudy Giuliani, accompanied by his son Andrew Giuliani - who is hoping to challenge Cuomo in November 2022.
'Cuomo's got real problems,' Trump said, mentioning Senate Republican Minority Leader Robert Ortt, who would participate in a Senate trial to remove Cuomo if the Assembly impeaches him.
'It's going to be a hot couple of weeks in Albany.
'Senator Ortt is going to have a great time.
'Cuomo has found himself in an interesting situation.'
Trump, seen during the presidential debate in October 2020, told a Republican gathering in New York on Thursday night that their governor, Andrew Cuomo, was 'in real trouble'
Cuomo, who has always denied the allegations, gave a televised address an hour after James' report was released during which he denied all of the claims and called the report a political attack on his character
The 63-year-old has spent the past three days holed up inside the Governor's Mansion in Albany, strategizing ways to save his political career
Cuomo has not been seen since the bombshell report was published on Tuesday
Cuomo was on Tuesday found by the New York attorney general to have sexually harassed 11 women.
Cuomo has not been seen in public since Tuesday's report was issued, and has been holed up at the Governor's Mansion in Albany trying to find a way to save his political life.
He is refusing to resign, despite President Joe Biden leading calls for him to step aside.
It now looks likely that Cuomo will be impeached in the next few months, as state Democrats say they have lost confidence in him.
Trump himself was impeached twice by the House, but the Senate did not vote to remove him from office.
Trump, 75, and Cuomo, 63, have known each other for decades, and Trump has also been accused by multiple women of sexual misconduct.
The two, both born in the New York borough of Queens, clashed repeatedly during the pandemic and on Thursday Trump took the opportunity to denounce once again Cuomo's handling of the COVID-19 crisis.
Cuomo's father Mario became governor when Andrew was 17, and he spent much of his youth in the house where he now lives
He said Cuomo was 'horrible on COVID,' according to attendees who spoke to The New York Post.
The former president urged guests to get vaccinated for COVID and encouraged other Americans to do so 'because I don't want to see anything bad happen to my people.'
The fundraiser was attended by 500 guests and raised $1 million for the state Republican Committee.
Trump said Andrew Giuliani, a former professional golfer, is 'one of the best political golfers,' and told the crowd: 'We're going to have a Republican governor'.
Andrew Giuliani's rival for the Republican nomination, Rep. Lee Zeldin, was also present.
Trump called up Rudy Giuliani to the podium and they discussed the crime situation in New York.
Trump, according to the paper, said Cuomo and Mayor Bill de Blasio have 'destroyed New York.'
Trump was asked whether he will run to reclaim the presidency in 2024.
'I'll make an announcement very soon. I'll let you guys know,' he said.
