Female Secret Service officer is investigated over Facebook posts accusing lawmakers of 'treason' for confirming Biden's victory and blaming Antifa for Capitol riots

A Secret Service agent is under investigation after she posted Facebook comments accusing lawmakers of 'treason' for certifying Joe Biden's election victory and blaming Antifa for riots at the US Capitol last week.

The investigation was first reported Monday night by the Washington Post, which obtained screenshots of the posts that sparked it.

In comments shared on Thursday, one day after a mob of Donald Trump's supporters stormed the Capitol, the unnamed agent condemned efforts to remove the president from office and charged that members of Congress who formalized the Electoral College vote were 'committing treason on live tv'.

She also voiced support for the insurrectionists, writing in part: 'Good morning patriots! Yesterday started out beautiful and as usual Antifa soured the mood and attacked police and an Air Force veteran was murdered…. It's OFFENSE time finally!!'

In another post, the agent shared a meme of Trump shaking hands with himself, captioned: 'Here's to the Peaceful Transition of Power.'

Capitol Police have come under fire for not bolstering the number of officers on the day of the protest and making no preparations for the possibility that it could escalate into violent riots. The department had the same number of officers in place as on a routine day

The Post reported that the agent also echoed Trump's unfounded claims that the election was rigged by Democrats.

No details have been revealed about the identity of the agent and it is unclear if she has been put on leave pending the investigation.

The Secret Service, which prohibits agents from engaging in any political activity, did not immediately return DailyMail.com's requests for comment.

When approached by the Post, an agency spokeswoman said: 'The US Secret Service carries out its law enforcement mission in an objective and apolitical manner.

'Any allegation that an employee is not carrying out their duties in that manner will be investigated.

'As this is a personnel matter, the agency will not be commenting.'

The Secret Service probe came to light after US Capitol Police began investigating a total of 17 officers for alleged misconduct in connection with the insurrection at the Capitol last Wednesday.

Two of the officers were suspended, Ohio Rep Tim Ryan said Monday - one for taking a selfie with a rioter and another for putting on a MAGA hat and acting as a 'guide' for rioters around the Capitol.

Ryan, who chairs a House panel probing last week's events, said interim Capitol Police Chief Yogananda Pittman is taking 'aggressive action' to see if there was any internal 'help' by officers in the chaos.
