Outraged mother claims group home SHAVED her biracial seven-year-old daughter's head and told her her hair would grow back 'straight'
Denise Robinson is suing a local children’s program after she alleges they shaved her daughter’s hair without her permission.
The Little Heroes Group Home is an overnight program for children with behavioral or trauma-related issues. Denise sent her 7-year-old daughter to the program, but when the little girl came back, she was nearly bald.
“For them to do this, it’s very upsetting, not just to me but to her,” Denise said. “Her hair was two ponytails on the side on Saturday and it was braided on the ponytails. There was not a hygiene issue.”
Ms Robinson (right) says no one from her child's residential program had called her to get her permission before taking the 7-year-old to a salon
People in the program say they took the 7-year-old to a salon where a volunteer cut her hair. They claim it was due to “hygiene issues,” though they never specified what the issues were.
The mother’s attorney, Richard Kendall, believes there may have been more sinister motivations at play.
“The volunteer informed this 7-year-old biracial child that by shaving her head, her hair would grow back straight,” said the attorney. “I find that appalling.”
The organization says they cannot reveal why the incident occurred but are performing an internal investigation.
“Regardless if they are there they don’t have a say in shaving anyone’s head. I wouldn’t have signed off on that,” Denise said.
