Trump-hating actor Robert De Niro calls Republicans ‘pretty f***ing stupid’ at his NYC film festival

World famous actor Robert De Niro — who’s bashed Republican President Donald Trump in one form or another since before his 2016 election — took the stage on the closing night of his own Tribeca Film Festival on Saturday and blasted Trump again.

No surprise there. But De Niro also ripped Republicans.

“I’m not so much concerned about Republicans believing Trump’s bellowing bulls**t about fake news,” De Niro said, according to The Hollywood Reporter. “They’re not that stupid, most of them, but they’re pretty f***ing stupid.”

De Niro added, “I’m very concerned about Republicans’ gutless acquiescence to Trump dismissing facts and creating his own alternate reality. This will never, never be right. That’s why I’m very grateful to the journalists we’re about to see and legitimate journalists everywhere who devote themselves to showing us the truth,” the outlet said.

What did De Niro say about Trump at the start of the festival?

At a lunch to kick off the festival, De Niro told the journalist-dominated crowd that “America is being run by a mad man” and compared Trump to “Colonel Sanders’ fried chicken,” IndieWire reported.

“When he doesn’t like what he hears, he dismisses it by saying it’s un-American and damning and it’s ‘fake news,’ but we know the truth,” De Niro added, according to the outlet. “All thinking people do know the truth.”

The actor added to the gathered journalists that “your job is difficult enough without being attacked by our low-life-in-chief. That’s the new name I have for him. The press has done an admirable job this past year, we’re looking at journalists as our saviors, in the same way we used to look at our political leaders,” IndieWire reported.
