Motorist's fury after 'jobsworth' parking warden slapped him with TWO tickets in as many days while he was delivering implants for urgent hospital operation
Anthony Fleetwood, who works for a courier company, had parked outside the renal unit at the hospital while he delivered urgent items for surgery on Wednesday.
When he came back to his van, a parking attendant had slapped a fine on his vehicle because he was not in a space or a designated loading bay.
Mr Fleetwood was delivering on behalf of Stanmore Implants, an orthopaedic company focused on saving and restoring limbs and joints – and creates technology for attaching prosthetics.
He said the hospital does not have a designated loading bay and that those making deliveries are forced to pay for a parking space – but Bucks Healthcare NHS Trust disputes this.
Describing the incident, Mr Fleetwood, who delivers to dozens of hospitals in the area, said: “I was delivering an implant for an urgent operation and when I got back to the van, I saw him putting the ticket. I asked him why but he wouldn’t tell me.
“It is the second time in two days that this same parking warden has put a ticket on my car. It felt like the second time he was just doing it to antagonise me.
“A police van was in attendance and I asked the officer where else I could have parked and he admitted there wasn’t anywhere. Parking is really limited at the hospital. It was just really annoying.”
The delivery driver has appealed the ticket and he says the parking charge has now been dismissed.
David Williams, directory of strategy and business development at the Trust, said: “We have dedicated loading bays at Wycombe Hospital to enable the delivery of important clinical supplies, such as implants used in theatres, without disrupting the day-to-day running of the hospital.
“Based on the photographs, this particular delivery driver has chosen not to use the loading bays and we will make a renewed effort to ensure our suppliers are very clear on where to park to deliver their goods.”
