White police officer sparks fury after being accused of using excessive force apprehending 12-year-old black rapper Lil C-Note who performed on the Ellen Show
A white Georgia cop has sparked outrage after he was caught on video apprehending a young black boy at an Atlanta mall and seemingly got into a physical altercation with the child's aunt.
The Cobb County police officer is displayed manhandling the child and threatening to send him to jail. The boy was identified on social media as Corey J, also known as young Rapper Lil C-Note, who performed on Ellen just last year.
In the viral video, filmed by Corey J's aunt on October 6, the cop roughly holds onto Corey J's arm as the boy tries to wiggle his arm out of the officers gasp.
'You’re 12?' the officer is heard asking him.
'You’re about to go to jail. You’re going to go to a youth detention center if you don’t...'
All the while the Corey J's aunt films the two as the officer seems to get ready to arrest him. The boy’s aunt pleads with the officer to talk to the boy's father on the phone.
'He’s got his rights. He’s not doing anything right now sir,' she says to the cop with panic in her voice.
'I have his father on the phone and you won’t even speak to him,' she adds.
The officer simply replies by saying 'Yup'.
Corey asks to be let go but the officer cuts him off. Then the camera suddenly seems to fall from the aunts hand and an altercation between her and the officer takes place as she shrieks.
In a threatening tone, the officer says: 'You put your hands on me again...'
'You put your hands on my motherf***ing nephew!' she says with tears.
The clips ends with a view from the ground looking up as the aunt seems to have fallen to the ground in the altercation.
The video was shared on Twitter and has racked up over 8,000 views.
'This incident just took place at the Cumberland Mall, Atlanta. Look how this officer to touching this young kid. He would never be treating a little white kid like this. Then he attacks the kids family for questioning his actions. So tired of seeing this s***,' Jason Pollock who shared the video wrote.
Journalist Shaun King also shared the video on Instagram where it garnered over 318,000 views, identifying the victim as Corey J.
Some commenters said the child rapper was reportedly selling CD's at the mall when he was approached by the cop.
The Cobb County Police Department confirmed to AJC that the incident occurred on October 6.
'At this time, we do not have any other information to release,' a spokesperson for the department said.
Cobb County has come under major scrutiny for racism over the year.
In 2017 a study by the International Association of Chiefs of Police found the department suffered with 'perceptions of racism' but failed to find concrete evidence of discrimination.
Also in 2017 a lieutenant at the department stepped down after he was caught on camera telling a motorist 'we only kill black people'.
