Cher Calls for Boycott of Social Media over 'collusion with Russia' — but not Twitter (3 Pics)
Legendary performer Cher announced to her 3.5 million followers on Twitter that she was boycotting Google and Facebook because they might as well have colluded with Russia, according to her.
"WONT USE GOOGLE,GETTING RID OF FACEBOOK ACCOUNT I DIDNT KNOW I HAD," she explained in a bizarre all-caps tweet on Tuesday.
"THESE COMPANIES HAVE NO ALLEGIANCE TO,OR [love] OF ANYTHING BUT MONEY. THEY MIGHT AS WELL BE CONSPIRING WITH RUSSIA TO DESTROY OUR DEMOCRACY," she added.
However, she said she would not give up Twitter because of the love she had received from fans on the social media platform.
All three companies have been criticized for allowing propaganda campaigns to be run on their platforms that critics say may have swayed the 2016 election.
In reports from the Senate Intelligence Committee released Monday, an online campaign to influence the election was reported to be much more massive and pervasive than previously believed. One target of the campaign was to discourage African-Americans from voting for Hillary Clinton and suppress the Democratic vote.
Cher has been a vehement and vocal critic of President Donald Trump since before the election. In one tweet from Friday, she referred to the president as a "liar," a "thug, and a "traitor" that is ruining the country.
