Could this help solve Britain's housing crisis? New ready-made three bed home can be built in just 36 hours for as little as £65k (just don't call it a prefab!) (12 Pics)
- Ilke Homes operates factory in Knaresborough, Yorkshire, where eight fully-fitted homes could be made a day
- The module homes are built in the factory before being transported on a lorry to site and bolted together
- Houses built in half time of traditional homes and typically cost 20 per cent less to heat than other new builds
- Term prefab has been shunned by constructors instead preferring 'modular construction' for the new houses
Ilke have opened a factory in Yorkshire and hope eight fully-fitted houses will be made each day. Pictured is the construction effort at the housing conference in Manchester in June
The company's website explains how their focus is on 'low-rise houses and apartments up to four storeys' which will provide much-needed family housing across the UK
The Manchester house is given a third level. Housing secretary James Brokenshire, said: 'We want to see 300,000 homes being delivered by the mid-2020s'
Ilke also claimed that the modular homes typically cost 20 per cent less to heat than traditionally built brand-new properties and half the cost to heat of an average UK home
Currently, the record has been 36 hours for assembling a house at the location, but one to two weeks is more likely to be the norm when the homes are installed around the country
At Europe's largest housing conference in Manchester in June Ilke constructed two properties in less than 48 hours
Onsite preparation works and build manufacturing are undertaken simultaneously for modular properties, so build programmes for Ilke Homes can be completed in half the time of a traditional build
British modular housebuilder Ilke Home officially opened the doors to its first modular housing factory in Knaresborough, Yorkshire
Communities Secretary Rt Hon James Brokenshire officially opened the new 25,000m2 modular homes factory, meeting with ilke Homes employees, testing out the innovative 3D modelling technologies used by their manufacturing team and seeing modules at various stages of the construction flow-line
Ilke Homes are not alone in their decision to re-embrace prefab style homes. Insurance company Legal & General have also built a 550,000 sq ft factory in Elmet, near Leeds
ilke Homes, in partnership with housing associations, developers and registered providers will deliver much-needed, high-quality housing in less than half the time of traditional construction
