2 Waffle House employees fired after filming themselves putting food on sleeping customer
Waffle House fired two employees after a video surfaced showing them putting food on a sleeping customer.
The video first popped up on Instagram, showing workers behind the counter of a Lithonia, Ga., restaurant putting salt, ketchup and a slice of cheese on a man’s head and then proceeding to make him “dance” by moving his arms. The unidentified man seen asleep at the counter told Atlanta broadcast station WSB-TV he didn’t know the employees who filmed him.
The man’s fiancée, who asked not to be identified, said to WSB-TV that he had gone into Waffle House to sober up.
“He went to go get his head together, his mind straight, he passed out during the time, and they took advantage of him,” she said.
The man in the video didn’t know anything had happened until he saw the video on social media. He filed a police report on Monday for simple battery, though the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that it’s unclear if anyone has been charged.
Waffle House apologized to the man and investigated what happened as soon as the company learned about the video.
“We have been in contact with the customer and have apologized,” company spokesman Pat Warner said in a statement provided to Yahoo Lifestyle. “When we learned of this event, we launched an investigation, and have terminated the employees involved. Their actions in no way represent our company or our thousands of associates who strive to provide our customers with a positive experience daily.”
The Instagram page where the video was discovered, which is now private, reportedly featured similar videos from the same Waffle House.
“Half of the people who are on his page probably don’t even know they were being exposed at the moment,” the man’s fiancée told WSB-TV.
