Father, 38, and his 10-year-old son are left traumatised after racist thugs sprayed 'no blacks' on their front door but police told them there weren't enough staff to investigate (4 Pics)
A 10-year-old boy has been left traumatised after 'no blacks' was spray painted on his front door just five days after he moved in with his father.
Jackson Yamba, 38, has released shocking images after the racial slur was painted on the front door of the flat he shares with his son David, 10, as well as three communal doors of their building in Salford, Greater Manchester.
The qualified barrister, who is originally from The Democratic Republic of Congo and arrived in the UK in 2006, only moved into the flat with David earlier this month.
The single dad-of-one claimed when he reported the incident - the worst hate crime he said he has ever been a victim of - to Greater Manchester Police he was told officers didn't have enough staff to investigate.
Mr Yamba said: 'David and I only moved in here on February 3, and we discovered this on February 8.
'I was taking David to school and we noticed it on the front door and on three communal doors in the flats too.
'As soon as it happened I phoned the police and took a day off from work as I assumed they would be coming round to investigate.
'But they didn't because they said they didn't have enough staff available - they never came round or saw me.
'In my eyes this is the most serious hate crime you can come across. It's on my front door.
'It's the worst type of hate that's ever happened to me since I came here, I couldn't speak English when I moved here.
'I now have to explain to my son that not everybody here is like this, a lot of people are nice and it's just a few who are like this.
'My first worry was that if they've done this, they can go further. Do they know where my son goes to school?'
David added: 'My daddy was taking me to school when we first saw it. I was scared, as this has never happened to me before.
'I was so surprised, I wanted to stay in the house in case they were waiting and I didn't want to go to school but Dad said it will be OK.
'I started to cry in case something happened and I don't want to stay in the house anymore.'
Since Mr Yamba tweeted a picture of the abuse, in a post which has now been shared more than 7,700 times, Greater Manchester Police have apologised, with officers visiting his home today.
And despite fearing for his and David's safety, he said most residents in the three storey flat block have been supportive.
He added: 'Neighbours believe they know who has done it, but we can't prove it until someone has been found guilty in the eyes of the law.
'I think it has to be somebody who lives here, as you need a key fob to get into the building. I can't see this being planned and somebody waiting outside.
'Luckily, most of the residents here have come to me and said they're supporting us.
'The police said they didn't know why I haven't heard from them.
'If I hadn't tweeted about it, they wouldn't be interested.'
Reaching out to Mr Yamba on Twitter, chief constable Ian Hopkins said: 'Jackson, I have only just seen this and can only apologise.
'I have asked the duty assistant chief constable to ensure we visit you and investigate immediately.
'I have asked for a personal update as to why we haven't done so to date.
'That is frankly just not good enough. There may have been other issues at the time, but we should have followed up quickly.
'It's an appalling crime you and your family have suffered.'
In a statement, chief inspector David Gilbride, of Greater Manchester Police's Salford district, added: 'We always strive to provide the best possible service to the public that we can, and provide an appropriate and expedient response.
'Where we fall short of this, we will review our approach and look to learn from it.
'We are sorry to hear that Mr Yamba has received a service below what we would seek to provide.
'I have visited him in person today in order to ensure that this incident is fully investigated.'
