"He'd be worth about $3million, he's an Italian stallion, mate": Widow sues over loss of sex after husband dies due to botched medical treatment
A young widow whose husband died after botched medical treatment left him brain damaged is suing the government over loss of sex.
Cara Finnegan is seeking £650,000 ($1.2million) for nervous shock and loss of "consortium", or sex, with her childhood sweetheart and the father of her four children.
Jamie Finnegan was left brain damaged and passed away in 2018 after a procedure at Brisbane Hospital in Australia went wrong six years ago.
Jamie's mum, Daphne, thinks Cara is entitled to compensation, despite joking about the way the claim is worded.
"If we're talking about conjugal rights he'd be worth about $3million, he's an Italian stallion, mate," Daphne told A Current Affair .
She continued: "She's got to raise those four children by herself, she didn't get any money to raise those children.
"Do you think Jamie wants his children living in poverty?"
The family has already received £5.5million ($10million) in damages following Jamie's death.
Daphne said about $8million is left and is being held in trust for his children when they turn 25.
Daphne said Cara went to mediation and was offered $30,000, and claimed Queensland Health had said the children had received enough money.
But now his widow and a number of other family members are launching new claims in court.
"I want everybody to claim, because Queensland Health never apologised and never cared, and they continued to hurt Jamie, continued to hurt him or make him suffer," Daphne told A Current Affair.
