Rob Lowe Deletes 'Chief' Tweet Mocking Elizabeth Warren After Celebrity Backlash, Then Smacks The Perpetually Offended

Actor Rob Lowe drew ire from fellow celebrities over the weekend when he poked fun at Democrat presidential hopeful Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) for her much-derided claim of Native American heritage.

"Elizabeth Warren would bring a whole new meaning to Commander in 'Chief,'" wrote Lowe in a since-deleted tweet.
Warren has been plagued with mockery for her dubious claims to having prominent Native ancestry, which seemingly helped her snag a diversity hire at Harvard. In October, Warren confusingly boasted of DNA testing results which showed she is possibly somewhere from 1/64th to 1/1,024th Native American. And last week, the senator took another hit: The Washington Post reported that Warren filled out the form for the State Bar of Texas in 1986 claiming "American Indian" heritage, in her own handwriting.
Lowe's tweet was clearly a hit at Warren's offensive fake claim to having such heritage, not a dig at Native Americans. But, alas, celebrities and left-wing politicos were quick to condemn the "Parks and Recreation" star for his alleged cultural insensitivity.
Thus, Lowe deleted the tweet, but not without following it up with a jab at those perpetually offended.
"I deleted my Elizabeth Warren tweet. It was a joke and some peeps got upset, and that’s never my intention," posted the actor on Sunday. "On the GOOD side: I just got to use the Oxford comma!" he joked.
Hours later, Lowe smacked those with a "total inability to laugh at ANYTHING."
"Observation: many polarizing politicians actually LIKE each other, privately help each other, then publicly stir the pot, playing for votes," he wrote. "[That's] fine. Only thing wrong with it is when we buy it whole cloth, breeding intolerance, anger and total inability to laugh at ANYTHING."
Some of the backlash included scoldings from celebrities like Mark Hamill of "Star Wars" and "Charmed" actress-turned-left-wing-thought-leader Alyssa Milano (H/t Fox News):

Lowe has been open about being politically independent. During a 2013 appearance on CNN's now-defunct "Piers Morgan Live," Lowe explained that guns are woven into our founding in the United States and noted that he is an owner of three guns. However, the "West Wing" actor did not totally discount a ban on so-called "assault weapons."
"It's a part of how our country was former. We did have to take up arms to form our country. ... It's in our Constitution," said Lowe, adding, "I own guns. I'm gone a lot. I have a wife. I have two kids."
Asked about an assault weapons ban being implemented by then-President Barack Obama, Lowe told Morgan he would not personally have a problem with it, but noted: "If you're a law-abiding person and you bought it under the law, having it taken from you, I can see why people would have a problem with that. But, if you don't do that, it’s not really a ban is it?"
"I do think the last thing viewers want is another Hollywood actor telling them anything about guns, pro or con," Lowe added.
During the 2016 presidential election, Lowe smacked former Democratic candidate Bernie Sanders' debate performance. "Watching Bernie Sanders. He's hectoring and yelling at me WHILE he's saying he's going to raise our taxes. Interesting way to communicate," he wrote via Twitter.
