It might be difficult to tell what you’re looking at, and there’s an unfortunate reason for that.
Back in 2008, the World Wildlife Fund commissioned a Tokyo based-ad agency for a campaign called WWF Japan – Population by pixel. The idea behind the campaign was simple: Create pictures of endangered species, but only using the number of the animal’s population for the pixels, to represent how many of these animals are left.
“I did it as a programming challenge. I did it… in python… but the code is very gross. I only worried about the final product and not the readability/niceness of the code.”
