Anti-Vaxxer’s Meme Gets Shut Down By A Clever Comment
Anti-vaxxers are still out there. They do not care that health organizations, doctors, and scientists agree that vaccines are safe and effective. They just repeat their mantras. Recently, an anti-vaxxer even turned one into a Philosoraptor meme. Asking why is his unvaccinated kid a danger to the vaccinated ones (assuming that vaccines work) they thought they were exposing a quirky paradox. Luckily, someone took the time to completely obliterate it. Reddit user u/Slackbeing posted the entire thing on the subreddit r/MurderedByWords where it has already received over 53k upvotes. We can only hope that the person who made the meme has read it as well. Not all who wander are lost.
Some people think that there is little benefit in giving children vaccinations because the risk of contracting vaccine-preventable diseases is so low. Sadly, this is a harmful anti-vaccination myth. According to an article by Medical News Today, “Vaccine-preventable disease rates have dropped because immunization is now a widespread and common practice. In recent years, however, the number of people contracting vaccine-preventable diseases has increased. Research has found that children who do not undergo immunization are a contributing factor to this troubling trend.”
Thanks to “herd immunity,” so long as a large majority of people are immunized, even the unimmunized minority will be protected. With so many people resistant, infectious disease simply won’t get the change to establish itself and spread. This is very important because there will always be a portion of the population (for example, infants, pregnant women, elderly) that can’t receive vaccines.
However, if too many people aren’t getting vaccinates, they start building a collective danger, opening up opportunities for viruses and bacteria to establish themselves, mutate, and spread.
