Nike Slaps Every American In The Face Again, By Partnering With Kaepernick On Shoe Commemorating His Kneeling
Nike used to be the all-American sneaker, worn by the most popular athletes and wanted by every kid and teenager.
But when the shoe company announced on Sept 3, 2018 that it had signed former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick many fans were incensed.
The hashtag #BoycottNike trended on Twitter and some patriotic Americans even burned some Nike gear to show their disdain for the company’s decision.
Americans had every right to be furious as Kaepernick, a mediocre quarterback at best, had parlayed his bench warming NFL job into a firestorm in 2016 when he started kneeling for the National Anthem.
He wore a shirt emblazoned with an image of former communist dictator Fidel Castro and a pair of socks that depicted police as pigs.
“I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country [United States] that oppresses black people and people of color,” he said in August 2016 as he wore the Castro shirt after a game.
“To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder,” he said.
But two years after that Nike thought it was a wise idea to partner with a man who had shown disdain for America and what it stands for.
And now, in 2019, Nike has decided that spitting in the face of their fans and the nation that made them a billion-dollar company one time was not enough.
The shoe giant has decided to honor the quarterback who had a mediocre career before becoming an anti-American pariah by creating a shoe to celebrate the first time he kneeled for the Anthem.
“This special edition Nike Air Force 1 comes dressed in a Black and White color scheme. It features a Black leather upper, a gradient-faded Swoosh on the sides completed with several personal details.
“A hangtag with Kaep’s number 7 atop a White midsole and icy translucent outsole with the date Colin first took a knee in protest ‘8/14/16’ on the right shoe finishes the design,” SneakerBarDetroit reported.
The shoe is set to reach stores on December 28 and it likely to cause the same firestorm of controversy that their original partnership did.
Nike should be boycotted by any American who loves this nation and who stands for the flag and the National Anthem.
By every American who respects our police officers and the job they do to keep us safe, risking their lives daily.
By every Cuban American whose face he spit in when he wore a T-Shirt depicting the face of the man who was responsible for the murders of their countryman.
Nike has made a choice and as Americans it is time to show them that their actions have consequences.
