A Couple were busted transporting nearly $1 million-worth of methamphetamine
A Minnesota man and woman were busted in southeast Minnesota transporting nearly $1 million-worth of methamphetamine.
According to the Cannon River Drug & Violent Offender Task Force, 39-year-old Lucas J. Madison, of South St. Paul and 32-year-old Katherine B. Campbell, of Rochester, are accused of hauling large quantities of narcotics to Minnesota from Arizona.
On April 14, the duo was was tracked by ground and air surveillance as they returned to Minnesota. It led to a traffic stop on Interstate 35 near Faribault in Rice County, with a K9 officer alerting officers to the presence of drugs in the vehicle, according to charging documents.
A search of the vehicle turned up more than 25 pounds of methamphetamine – contained to 23 packages – worth an estimated street value of nearly $1 million.
Task force agents believe Madison had made frequent trips to Arizona, with evidence found in the vehicle indicating that he held a significant position in the drug distribution hierarchy.
Investigators believe Madison trafficked the narcotics from Arizona to Minnesota, then sold the meth to drug dealers in the Twin Cities metro area.
"It is unfortunate that criminal activity like this occurs, even more so during these trying times in our society," said task force Commander Paul LaRoche in a statement.
"This case in particular was a large scale investigation involving multiple law enforcement partners. I am proud of how well all worked together to intercept this large quantity of meth and prevent it from being distributed in our state.”
Madison has been charged with a first-degree aggravated controlled substance crime and moving it across state borders. Campbell is charged with aiding and abetting the importation of a controlled substance across state borders.
