Terrifying moment small plane flies through power lines before crashing, killing the trainee pilot, 25, and seriously injuring his instructor (9 Pics)

A small plane hit power lines before crashing and killing its trainee pilot and seriously injuring the 25-year-old's instructor. 

The horrific crash was filmed by a car driver's dashcam on the busy road which the plane flew over before crashing, in Miramar, Florida, on Tuesday. 

Footage shows the Piper PA-34 plane sending sparks into the air as it clipped power lines above Pembroke Road before catching fire and crashing.

A small plane hit power lines above Pembroke Road in Miramar, Florida, before crashing and killing its trainee pilot and seriously injuring the 25-year-old's instructor

The victim was Miramar resident and student pilot Mark Daniel Scott, 25, according to local police. 

The instructor has yet to be identified but was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital with serious injuries, Local 10 reported.

Witness Alan Birmaher, who shared his dashcam footage, said: 'All of a sudden, something just caught my eye. I looked up and the plane was just definitely way too low.

'I looked up and for a split second, it was close enough that I kind of saw the pilot's face. It was right there.'

Another man, Cedric Jackson, who was near the site of the crash, said he could feel the heat of the fire as he ran to get out of the way. 

'When it burst up into flames, I felt the heat on my back as if someone had a lighter just sitting there on my shirt. The heat was that close to my back,' he said.

The plane was registered to Wayman Aviation flight school and crashed just after 9am.

Eddy Luy, the school's vice president, told Local 10 News that Mr Scott was an advanced student who had nearly finished his training. 

'The flight training is all about emergency operations. It's about what happens in case of this, in case of that, and they seemed to have followed those procedures just fine, but the timing was not right for them,' he said.

Federal Aviation Administration (FDA) spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen said the plane had taken off from North Perry Airport in Pembroke Pines, about three miles away from where it crashed.

She added that the pilot had told air traffic controllers that he was trying to return to the airport.

A spokeswoman for Miramar police told Local 10 that the plane had been experiencing mechanical issues and so had tried to land on the road but crashed after clipping the power lines.   

A third person was hurt by debris and was treated at the scene before being released.
