An online attack! Gen Z goes to war with millennials on social media, dragging them for 'thinking Harry Potter is a personality trait,' obsessing over '90s kid memes and 'adulting' (22 Pics)
First, Gen Z went after the Baby Boomers, popularizing the dismissive phrase 'OK boomer' — and now, they're coming for millennials.
This week, Chicago-based Twitter user @local__celeb shared several screengrabs from TikTok, where Gen Z-ers were making fun of the generation above them.
The realization that Gen Z has so many unflattering things to say has inspired some mixed reactions from millennials, who have argued back, shrugged their shoulders, or — in many cases — warned Gen Z to just wait and see what happens to them once they're grown up and supporting themselves.
Generational war: Gen Z-ers are roasting millennials in response to a critical TikTok video
Captures: Chicago-based Twitter user @local__celeb shared several screengrabs from the comments section, which have gone viral
Older gen: High school and college-aged commenters responded with insults
Nice: They made fun of millennials' love of Harry Potter, wine, and pizza, as well as the fact that they can't afford real estate
'My hatred toward millennials is indescribable,' one child wrote
The generational showdown started on on a video made by TikTok user @mayalepa, who said that she hates when Baby Boomers lump Gen Z-ers and millennials together.
'I personally don't want to be associated with people who still think of Harry Potter movies as a personality trait,' she said.
In the past, it's typically been millennials who've complained about being grouped together, like when older generations mistakenly refer to high school or college-aged kids as millennials.
But it seems that Gen Z, too, doesn't want to be associated with another generation.
In the comments section, members of Gen Z mocked millennials — a fact which caught the attention of @local__celeb, who shared their insults on Twitter.
Yikes: On Twitter, some millennials responded that Gen Z will be in no better financial situation — and they'll face more challenges
'I’m awake at 3 am and i just want everyone to know what gen z says about millennials on tiktok.....' she wrote.
'They be 34 talking about "i'm a hufflepuff" like grow up and do a line of coke already,' wrote one.
'They're worried about their harry potter house but they live in a 1 bedroom apartment... y'all worried about the wrong houses.'
'I think every generation can agree that millennials were a mistake,' said another.
Others mocked the generation for saying 'doggo,' taking BuzzFeed quizzes, and using the term 'adulting.'
'Or "ugh I hate adulting just give me a slice of pizza and wine." like sis Rebecca you are 32 and an alcoholic pls sit down,' said one.
It's all bad: There were plenty who shrugged their shoulders and turned to self-deprecating humor
'My hatred toward millennials is indescribable,' said yet another.
Since the comments have been shared on Twitter, millennials have taken notice of the younger generation's derision — and they're not impressed.
Several are shaking their heads at Gen Z for mocking the financial realities facing millennials, pointing out that their own lives won't be much different soon.
'Gen Z are in for a rude awakening. If Millennials are finding it impossible to own houses and hold down grown up jobs, it won’t get any better for the next generations,' wrote one.
'Joke's on them when they find out they can't afford to rent a 1 bedroom place,' wrote another, while a third replied: 'That 1 bed reply was the funniest one.. Like they'll be living in anything bigger than a cupboard in the next 10 years.'
Others think they just have a bad attitude.
Back atcha: Others teased the younger generation for TikTok and Tide Pods
'Hey Gen Z being irony poisoned and not wanting anyone to ever enjoy things isn't a personality,' another Twitter user quipped.
And then there were plenty who shrugged their shoulders and turned to self-deprecating humor.
'Joke's on them, no one hates millennials more than millennials themselves,' wrote one. Another said: 'I get it, Gen Z. I, too, am devoid of anything in life that makes me happy.'
'Gen Z thinking they’re so cool calling us out, not realizing we’re all already dead inside, and they can’t hurt us!' quipped yet another.
Some just unleashed mockery of their own.
'My favorite thing about younger people is that they act like they wont also get older and be replaced by younger people who hate them just as much. we all knew everything at age 15 too jAyDeN,' wrote one.
'Oh no the kids who eat tide pods are coming for us,' said another.
'Gen Z has been subjected to the most mindless apps, app celebrities, & music an underdeveloped brain should have to endure. If we are struggling, good luck kiddos,' another tweeted.
