Three men are arrested for murder of father, 29, who was killed in Bronx drive-by shooting while crossing the street with his seven-year-old daughter
Police in New York City this morning arrested three suspected gang members in connection to a drive-by shooting in The Bronx that killed a young father as he was crossing the street with his seven-year-old daughter.
NYPD Chief of Detectives Rodney Harrison on Thursday announced the arrests of Davon Delks, 21, from The Bronx; Laquan Heyward, 25, from Staten Island, and Devon Vines, 27, from The Bronx, for the murder of 29-year-old Anthony Robinson.
All three suspects were taken into custody at 8am on Thursday, less than two weeks after the deadly shooting in The Bronx.
The NYPD on Thursday morning arrested Davon Delks, 21, from The Bronx; Laquan Heyward, 25, from Staten Island, and Devon Vines, 27, from The Bronx, for the murder of 29-year-old Anthony Robinson. Police declined to say which suspect is pictured in each mugshot
Robinson, from Brooklyn, was crossing East 170 Street in The Bronx with his seven-year-old daughter on July 5 when he was attacked
Video captured a passenger in a passing car pointing a gun at him and firing four shots
Robinson, a dad-of-three, collapsed to the ground as his daughter ran for her life
Robinson was crossing the street in front of 221 East 170 Street with his daughter, Khole, just before 6pm on July 5 when a car drove up to them.
Surveillance video from the scene captured the harrowing moment someone stuck out a hand holding a gun from the front passenger window and fired four rounds.
Robinson, who police said had many prior arrests, collapsed to the ground on the crosswalk as his daughter ran for cover.
The father was transported to the hospital and died from a gunshot wound to the chest.
So far, police have not said what prompted Robinson's brutal killing in broad daylight.
All three suspects in Robinson's murder are well-known to the Bronx District Attorney's Office, having been indicted in November 2016 on dozens of charges related to multiple shootings, robberies and a $200,000 ATM scam.
According to a contemporaneous press release from the DA, Delks, Heyward and Vines were members of an offshoot of the Bloods street gang called Sev-O.
Police were investigating whether Robinson's death was linked to the fatal shooting of Joel Baba and Eghosa Imafidon in a Bronx apartment just a few hours later.
It was thought the shooting, which also injured a third man, was carried out in retaliation for Robinson's death.
Robinson died from a gunshot wound to the chest. He did not get a chance to meet his youngest child, a baby girl, who was born a few weeks ago
Baba, 22, who went by the nickname 'Jay Gunz,' was a suspected member of the Sev-O gang and had been indicted alongside Delks, Heyward and Vines in 2016.
Baba and another man had been accused of shooting at rival gang members and grazing one person in the had in 2015.
Robinson's girlfriend, Stephanie Quinonez, who is not Khloe's mother but has two children by him, earlier said she was convinced that in his final moments Anthony saved Khloe's life by telling her to run away.
Quinonez told New York Daily News she and Robinson had known each-other growing up and had dated on and off before settling down together in 2016.
Khloe was his daughter from a previous relationship, while Stephanie had her own daughter from another relationship, Maya, who was the same age.
The pair then had two children together, one-year-old son Artemus and three-week-old A’Luna, who was born in Florida where Quinonez had moved a short time ago.
She said Robinson was supposed to have left New York already, and that the pair were planning to go to South Carolina to join his parents and start a new life.
But she says he wanted to spend time with Khloe, who was 'crazy' about him, and couldn't tear himself away.
Robinson never met his youngest daughter before he was killed.
Quinonez was overjoyed when she learned of today's arrests, telling Daily News: 'I'm so happy!'
