Moment police officer sweeps shirtless man of his feet and Tasers woman after arrest turns violent in residential street

A fast-moving police officer swept a shirtless man to the floor before Tasering a woman who tries to grab him from behind in Wales.

The officer was responding to reports of a disturbance shortly after 5pm in Barry on Saturday when two people 'failed to comply with instructions and attempts at intervention', South Wales Police said.

The officer shouts 'get on the ground' before giving a shirtless man one swift kick behind the knees, sending him toppling to the floor.

A woman then rushes up behind the officer and - after one other person's failed attempt at holding her back - swings a fist at him.

A 35-year-old woman has been arrested for assaulting an emergency worker while a man, also 35, was arrested for using threatening or abusive words or behaviour. They are both in police custody.  

Sergeant Richard Lloyd at Barry Police Station said: 'Our officers work tirelessly to protect the communities they serve and they do not deserve to be assaulted during the course of that duty.'

A statement from South Wales Police on Facebook read: 'We are aware of video footage circulating on social media showing the use of a Taser during an arrest in Barry yesterday (Saturday, August 8).

'A woman is currently in custody on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker after police responded to reports of a disturbance at an address on Main Street shortly after 5pm.

'The first officer on scene had cause to discharge a Taser after the two people involved in the altercation failed to comply with instructions and attempts at intervention, and the officer was assaulted.

'A 35-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker. A 35-year-old man has also been arrested, on suspicion of using threatening or abusive words or behaviour. Both are currently in custody.
