Man suffers critical leg injuries after 'booby trap' homemade bomb went off at Utah home where his 'relative' was arrested for stockpiling explosives and firing at police in July standoff
A man has suffered critical injuries to his lower legs after allegedly stepping on a 'booby trap' at his relative’s Utah home where a man was arrested in July for stockpiling explosives.
Firefighters responded to a fire at a home on Snow Moon Place in South Jordan around 4pm Saturday and later realized the blaze was actually the aftermath of an explosion.
The explosion prompted three neighbors to evacuate.
The first firefighters on the scene 'located an adult male in critical condition with lower leg injuries.'
The unnamed man was transported by AirMed to the University of Utah Medical Center.
The explosion took place at the same home where police had a standoff with Ryan Lynn McManigal on July 24.
In the tense standoff McManigal shot at cops and was ultimately arrested for allegedly stockpiling explosives. He remains in custody.

McManigal’s sister Bridget McManigal Black said that the victim was her cousin Jacob who had been working on repairs at the home when he stepped on a homemade 'booby trap' bomb that went off
He was charged in July with attempted murder and felony use of a weapon of mass destruction after officers found 20 pounds of explosives and more than 4,700 rounds of ammunition in the home, according to the Salt Lake Tribune.

'I got a call from a cousin of mine this evening and she explained to me that my other cousin, his name is Jake, Jacob was over at Ryan’s house trying to do repairs on the home,' she said to Fox13.
'I do believe that Ryan was very vindictive and manipulative. I think he is in a paranoid mental state. He told me he was going to set up booby traps,' Ryan's sister Bridget McManigal Black said

'As we recall back in July, I think Pioneer Day, his home had to be partially detonated due to some bombs [Ryan McManigal] was making, so what I’m hearing is that while he was making these repairs there was a booby trap bomb set and it went off on him,' she added.
Black said that Ryan had told her he was going to set up booby traps in the home.
'I do believe that Ryan was very vindictive and manipulative. I think he is in a paranoid mental state. He told me he was going to set up booby traps,' she said.
'He told me that he was going to set up booby traps in my mom's house in Vegas so it doesn’t come as a surprise to me that he would do this in his own home,' she added.
Officials said after the incident that there was no threat to the public.
Police and bomb squad investigators had also responded to the home because of its connection to the July incident.
