'Can you imagine if my father tried to do that?' Eric Trump blasts 'double standards' in America as it emerges Biden's new head of DOJ's criminal division worked at the same law firm as Hunter's attorney

Eric Trump has blasted what he describes as 'double standards' in America after it emerged that the new head of the Justice Department's criminal division worked at the same law firm as Hunter Biden's attorney.

Donald Trump's son hit out at the new Biden administration in an appearance on Fox News' Hannity Tuesday night over the apparent ties saying 'can you imagine if my father tried to do that?'

Nicholas McQuaid was appointed on Joe Biden's first day in office to serve as principal deputy assistant attorney general and as the acting assistant attorney general for the criminal division in the DOJ.

It has now emerged that McQuaid used to work at law firm Latham & Watkins alongside attorney Christopher Clark who hired by Joe Biden's son Hunter in December to represent him in his federal tax probe.

Trump spoke out about the ties Tuesday slamming the 'double standard' and 'hypocrisy' across the US.

'We've talked about this a million times,' he told Fox.

'The things that get said about me and Don [Jr.] and Ivanka and Tiffany and Barron and our whole family, there is a double standard in this country. There is unequal justice in this country.'

The former president's middle son fumed that the DOJ pick was 'frankly disturbing'.

'Can you imagine if my father ever tried to do that?' he said.

'There is unequal balance of justice in this country, and half of America sees it, and it's quite frankly disturbing to them.'

Trump claimed 'they tried to manufacture everything under the sun against my father, against all of us' saying that 'even when he's a private citizen they still try to impeach him.'

The House impeached Trump for a second time last month arguing that he is 'singularly responsible' for the January 6 Capitol riot that left five - including a Capitol cop - dead.

Trump's comments came after Fox revealed McQuaid's apparent ties to Hunter Biden's attorney.

McQuaid worked at Latham's New York office from 2017 until his DOJ appointment last month while Clark is a partner at the same office.

The two attorneys are said to have teamed up on a number of cases in the firm's white-collar defense and investigations practice and were jointly representing at least one client at the time McQuaid was tapped for the DOJ role, according to Yahoo News.

In December, Hunter Biden reportedly hired Clark to represent him in his federal tax inquiry, reported Law.com.

There is no indication that McQuaid has had any involvement in Hunter's case.

It is also not clear whether the main branch of the DOJ is involved in the investigation into the president's son's affairs which is being led by the US attorney’s office in Delaware.

However the connection is likely to raise questions around conflict of interest and ethics.

Under his new acting role, McQuaid is responsible for overseeing the DOJ’s 600 federal prosecutors.

Hunter announced in December he had learned he was under investigation over his tax affairs.

The investigation was opened in late 2018 and is said to include inquiries into potential criminal violations of tax and money laundering laws.

Biden issued a statement at the time saying he was 'deeply proud of his son'.

As well as slamming the 'hypocrisy', Eric Trump also took aim at the Biden administration calling the first 13 days in office 'disastrous for our country' and claiming it has 'cost thousands of jobs'.

He hit out at several of Biden's executive orders that backpedal on the Trump administration's orders, including stopping building the US-Mexico border wall, canceling the Keystone pipeline and rejoining the Paris climate agreement.

'The only person happy about the [Keystone] XL pipeline [being canceled] is Warren Buffett,' said Trump.

'Now all the fuel can go across [the US on] trains,' he said, referring to Buffett owning the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad company that will be used to transport crude oil between Canada and the Gulf of Mexico.

'They canceled the wall... who does that benefit?' he continued.

Trump went on to say he believes people will 'miss' having his father in office 'really quickly'.

'You go down the list and honestly, I think people are going to miss Donald Trump really quickly,' he said.

'I think they will miss him really quickly because some of these executive orders, 40 in the first day, are madness.'

His comments come two weeks since his father left the White House in unprecedented circumstances as he refused to abide by tradition and attend his successor's inauguration and was impeached just days later over his part in the Capitol riot.

The Trump clan have since fled to Florida where the elder Trump is now preparing his defense for his impeachment trial.
