'Stop talking about Dr. Seuss and work with us!' Rep Tim Ryan blasts Republicans for fixating on culture war issues as Chris Cuomo claims conservatives are only interested in 'Meghan Markle madness' to distract from COVID relief bill
Liberal pundits are claiming that conservatives are fixating on Dr. Seuss books and Meghan Markle's Oprah interview to deliberately avoid passing policy that would improve the lives of the American people.
On Tuesday, Democrat Rep. Tim Scott blasted his Republican colleagues for focusing on culture war issues after the party pushed back against the $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief bill.
The House is expected to pass the bill on Wednesday morning. No Republican members support the legislation.
Speaking on the House Floor Tuesday, Rep. Scott blasted: 'Stop talking about Dr. Seuss and start working with us on behalf of the American workers!'
Last week, Dr. Seuss Enterprises announced it would stop publishing six books by the author due to their insensitive depictions of people of color.
Many conservatives slammed that decision describing it as 'censorship' and claiming that Dr. Seuss was the latest victim of 'cancel culture'.
Rep. Scott referenced the controversy while advocating for the passing of the Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act, which would provide support to union workers.

Cuomo went on to claim that Republican's fixation on 'Markle madness' proved that they were 'against owning the reality of racism'
'We talk about pensions, you complain. We talk about the minimum wage increase, you complain. We talk about giving them the right to organize, you complain. But if we were passing a tax cut here, you’d be all getting in line to vote yes for it.
'Now stop talking about Dr. Seuss and start working with us on behalf of the American workers!' he raged.
Meanwhile, CNN personality Chris Cuomo echoed a similar sentiment during his broadcast on Tuesday night, as the house prepares to pass the COVID-19 relief bill.
'Why is the most sweeping legislation in decades to lift Americans out of poverty just hours away from passing, but without any support from the right side of the aisle?' he asked.
'The answer: Meghan Markle and a dollop of Dr. Seuss.'

Cuomo claimed that the Republicans want to 'duck real problem solving in favor of culture fights'.
He then went on to claim that their fixation on 'Markle madness' also proved that they were 'against owning the reality of racism'.

'The Queen [in her statement] didn't deny accusations of racism... but people here on the right continue to savage Markle and her story. Something struck a nerve with them. Was it a multi-racial woman speaking out against an institutional white royal family?'
He continued: 'Why are so many here on the right fringe unable to accept her story?'
Cuomo said he also believed Republicans were focusing on Dr. Seuss books to deflect from properly dealing with racism within their own party.
'Is this why they would rather debate books I have never heard of from Dr. Seuss than deal with the reality of January 6th? A white supremacist terror attack about which they have decided to spin a tail stranger than anything that Seuss ever wrote.'
Cuomo later discussed the issue with CNN analyst Natasha Alford who claimed that 'doubting racism is almost a national past time'.
Political commentator Van Jones also appeared and stated: 'It turns out there's a queen who has a lot of power. Her name is Oprah. She's the queen!'
