Marjorie Taylor Greene's campaign rakes in over $3.2M in first quarter as a freshman congresswoman - nearly five times more than the $728k AOC raised in her first three months in office

Marjorie Taylor Greene's campaign raked in an eye-popping $3.2million in the first quarter of 2021 - a sign that the freshman congresswoman from Georgia may have actually benefited from backlash over her controversial remarks.

Greene's campaign announced its massive first quarter windfall in a press release on Wednesday, noting that the money came from more than 100,000 individual contributions in all 50 states.

'Over 100,000 donors poured in over $3,200,000 to support me, averaging $32 per donation. You know why? I stood my ground and never wavered in my belief in America First policies and putting People Over Politicians!' Greene boasted on Twitter.

'And I will NEVER backdown! As a matter of fact, I'm just getting started.'

By comparison, fellow headline-grabbing Rep Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D - New York) raised just $728,000 for her campaign in her first quarter in office in 2019.

Greene crashed into Congress this year and quickly built up a reputation for her fringe beliefs - including her support for QAnon conspiracy theories and her suggestion that school shootings are a hoax perpetrated by Democrats to push gun control.

Just a few weeks into her term Greene faced fevered calls to resign after it was revealed that she'd liked a number of social media posts encouraging violence against Democrats including Nancy Pelosi.

In February, she was stripped of her committee assignments in a House floor vote where 11 Republicans joined Democrats to vote her off 230 to 199.

However Greene's fundraising numbers show that those controversies didn't make a dent in her donations - and possibly bolstered them.

Greene leaned into the controversies in fundraising appeals - saying that they showed her dedication to shaking up Washington.

In her statement on Wednesday Greene declared: 'For too long, the political ruling class that looks down on the rest of us, have been selling out America to the world, by whipping the backs of the hardworking American worker and taxpayer. But they fear one thing.

'The political ruling class fears the people because it’s the people that can take away what they love most. Power. Because it's power that brings them everything else.

'I am one of the people and the people are with me, and I will always be with them.'

Greene is over a year and a half away from facing re-election in Georgia's 14th District - but the early funds will come in handy should she face a challenge from more moderate Republicans and critics of Donald Trump - whom she has aligned herself with.

GOP Rep Adam Kinzinger of Illinois has already vowed to help prevent Greene's re-election and said he's willing to use his own funding to do it.

First-quarter fundraising stats for all members of Congress have yet to be released - however last week it was reported that Rep Lauren Boebert (D - Colorado) had raised $700,000.
