Self-proclaimed incel, 21, is arrested for 'stocking up on weapons and plotting mass murder of 3,000 - including sorority women at Ohio college campus'
A self-proclaimed 'incel' has been arrested for allegedly plotting a mass shooting at an unnamed Ohio college campus in which he planned to 'slaughter' 3,000 women 'out of hatred, jealousy and revenge.'
Tres Genco, 21, of Hillsboro, Ohio, was charged by federal agents on Wednesday for conspiring to commit a hate crime and illegally owning a machine gun.
Federal prosecutors revealed that Genco identifies as an 'incel' - involuntary celibate - and that he has interacted with an online community of mostly men who advocate for violence against women because they believe they are unjustly denied sexual or romantic attention.
Investigators allege that Genco started planning his killing spree in January 2019 when he made an online purchase for tactical gloves, a bulletproof vest, a hoodie emblazoned with the word 'revenge,' cargo pants, a bowie knife, a skull facemask, two Glock 17 magazines, a 9mm Glock 17 clip and a holster clip concealed carry for a Glock.
When he was taken into custody on Wednesday, police found a gun with a bump stock attached, body armor and boxes of ammunition in his car. They also found a Glock-style 9mm semiautomatic pistol hidden in a heating vent in his home.
Genco started posting on an incel forum back in July 2019 and repeatedly referenced infamous 'virgin killer' Elliot Rodger, according to his indictment.
In 2014, Rodger - who is the son of Hunger Games assistant director Peter Rodger - shot and killed six people and injured 14 others outside of a sorority house at the University of California in Santa Barbara before killing himself.

The suspect was a fan of the 'virgin killer' Elliot Rodger, pictured, who killed six people outside of a sorority house in California in 2014
In one post on the incel forum from July 2019, Genco allegedly described shooting a group of women with a water gun full of orange juice and likened it to Rodger's mass shooting.
'I put some orange juice in a water gun, I was planning to spray some foids and couples like ER (Rodgers) did, when I finally did do it, it was ER's birthday and I didn't even know that,' he wrote.
'Felt like I spiritually connected to the saint on that day... I drove up to them saying hi and they didn't even look up, they just went 'uhuh' so they get sprayed in the f**ing face. I suggest it to all incels, extremely empowering action.'
In August 2019, he allegedly wrote a manifesto titled 'A Hideous Symphony a manifesto written by Tres Genco, the socially exiled Incel,' in which he detailed his plans to go to basic training with the US military to learn how to kill.
'I will slaughter out of jealousy, hatred, and revenge... I will take away the power of life that they withhold from me, by showing there is more than just happiness and fulfillment, there is all encompassing death, the great equalizer that will bear all of us into its seductively calm velvet of silence and serenity,' his manifesto read, according to the indictment.
Around the same time, Genco allegedly wrote a note singling out an unnamed Ohio college and writing the date he intended to carry out his plot as May 23, 2020, the gun he planned on using as an M-16 and even his desired kill count: 'Needs to be huge! 3,000? Aim big then.'
Genco attended Army Basic Training at Ft. Benning, Georgia, that same month until December 2019 when he was discharged for poor performance and conduct.
On returning to Ohio, he allegedly wrote another manifesto called 'Isolated,' which he signed 'Your hopeful friend and murder.'
A portion of the text, as detailed in the indictment, reads: 'If you're reading this, I've done something horrible. Somehow you've come across the writings of the deluded and homicidal, not an easy task, and for that I congratulate you for your curiosity and willingness to delve into such a dark topic.'
Genco wrote a note with an unspecified location, date and gun he planned to use in his shooting. He also wrote that he hoped to have a kill count of 3,000
The following month, he allegedly started carrying out surveillance around Ohio State University and started searching topics online like 'how to plan a shooting crime' and 'when does preparing for a crime become attempt?'
In March 2020, he searched for police scanner codes for Columbus and campus police at Ohio State University.
Genco's Twitter page lists Ohio University in his bio but University Spokeswoman Carly Leatherwood told the Daily Beast that he was never a student there.
It wasn't until March 12, 2020, that Genco's alleged plans spilled out of the online incel community and caught the attention of police.
According to the indictment, an anonymous caller told police in Hillsboro, Ohio that Genco threatened them with a gun and cocked it before locking himself in his bedroom.
Police say the caller claimed Genco had been 'erratic and somewhat violent over the past several months.'
Cops responded and ordered Genco to leave his room with his hands up, with he eventually did before he was taken into custody.
On searching Genco's car, police found a gun with a bump stock attached, several loaded magazines, body armor and boxes of ammunition. On searching his room, they found a Glock-style 9mm semiautomatic pistol hidden in his heating vent. The firearm had no manufacturer's marks or serial number.
The unidentified caller also read Genco's manifestos and told police that 'he was planning to hurt someone.'
Genco faces on charge of attempting to commit a hate crime involving murder, which could mean a life sentence.
He also faces one count of illegally owning a machine fun, which is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
