Obama's CIA director Michael Morell says Biden's shambolic retreat from Afghanistan has 'absolutely inspired' jihadist terrorists across the world
Barack Obama's former CIA director believes that President Joe Biden has 'absolutely inspired' jihadists with his hectic exit strategy from Afghanistan.
Michael Morell, who twice served as acting director of the agency under Obama and then-Vice President Biden, spoke to CBS' Face the Nation Sunday to criticize the president's strategy to end the nearly 20-year war.
He believes that the pullout will allow the Taliban to 'flow back' into Afghanistan, making the region more dangerous than others on the planet.
Michael Morell, who twice served as acting director of the CIA under President Obama and then-Vice President Biden, spoke to CBS' Face the Nation Sunday to criticize the president's strategy to end the nearly 20-year war.
'I think that the Taliban winning the war in Afghanistan, and then the way our exit happened, has absolutely inspired jihadists all over the world,' Morell told Face the Nation host Margaret Brennan.
Morell said Sunday that President Biden's chaotic retreat from Afghanistan and subsequent Taliban takeover 'absolutely inspired' jihadists and gave hope to other terrorists.
'The Taliban is saying, we just didn't defeat the United States, we defeated NATO. We defeated the world's greatest military power, ever. So there's a celebration going on,' he added.
'I think that the Taliban winning the war in Afghanistan, and then the way our exit happened, has absolutely inspired jihadists all over the world,' Morell said
He says that this will reverberate to other areas around the globe.
'I think, not only will the jihadists be inspired, but a lot of them are going to come to Afghanistan to be part of the celebration, to be part of jihadist central,' he said.
He believes that Afghanistan is going to become more dangerous than the rest of the world for the first time since those attacks.
'We are more at risk, without a doubt,' Morell said when asked if the country is now less safe without troops in the country.

'We haven't yet put together a strategy... to collect intelligence, and then the Department of Defense has to figure out this over the horizon capability,' Morell added.
Morell wasn't the only former Obama administration official to criticize the current president on the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, which were masterminded by the terrorist group Al Qaeda.

'The most important thing for this president to do is be willing to accept responsibility for the mistakes and move on, and to basically do what is necessary now to protect our national security,' Panetta said.
Panetta also served as former President Bill Clinton's chief of staff.
Panetta said Biden has a responsibility 'to do whatever the hell is necessary to get all U.S. personnel and Afghan allies who fought alongside us out of Afghanistan.'
Biden defended his decision in a speech of quiet fury at the White House in mid-August, defending his decision to bring home U.S. troops before blaming Afghan leaders for their failure to prevent the country collapsing.
'I stand squarely behind my decision,' Biden said. 'After 20 years I've learned the hard way. That there was never a good time to withdraw U.S. forces. That's why we're still there.'
