WATCH: NBA Star Calls Out Nike For Using “Slave Labor” In China To Make Shoes
Enes Kanter of the Boston Celtics has continued his attack on Nike for a second day, after criticizing the corporation in a video on Monday for being “silent” on China’s slave labor practices.
On Tuesday, Kanter redoubled his efforts, uploading images of Nike shoes bearing the caption “MADE WITH SLAVE LABOR,” and reiterated his invitation to Nike co-founder Phil Knight to accompany him on a trip to the communist country in search of forced labor camps.
“To the owner of @Nike, Phil Knight,” Kanter tweeted Monday. “How about I book plane tickets for us and let’s fly to China together. We can try to visit these SLAVE labor camps and you can see it with your own eyes.”
He also re-invited LeBron James and Michael Jordan, stating, “@KingJames @Jumpman23 you guys are welcome to come too. #EndUyghurForcedLabor.”
The tweet included pictures of a pair of Nike “Jordan” collection sneakers that he had labeled “HYPOCRITE NIKE,” “MODERN DAY SLAVES,” “NO MORE EXCUSES” and “MADE WITH SLAVE LABOR.”
In a video posted to Twitter the day before, Kanter invited Knight, James, and Jordan to accompany him to China. Nike and a spokesman for Jordan did not respond to FOX Business’ requests for comment. James’ representative could not be reached.
The Celtics star commended Nike for standing up to injustices in the United States before criticizing the corporation for failing to speak out against human rights atrocities in China, specifically the slavery of Uyghur Muslims.
Additionally, he stated that while Nike claims its supply chain is free of forced labor, the firm does not “have the receipts to prove it.”
That is when Kanter proposed that he and Knight travel to China with James and Jordan.
Kanter has been on a rant against China over the last week, taking to social media to condemn the communist country’s treatment of the Uyghurs and referring to Chinese President Xi Jinping as a “brutal dictator.”
