Man Unwittingly Let Waukesha Suspect Darrell Brooks In To His Home, Gave Him Sandwich [VIDEO]
More testimony and video footage continues to come out about the harrowing events in Waukesha this Sunday where 6 people were killed and dozens injured during a Christmas parade. Now, video has been released of the moments before Brooks arrest as well as firsthand testimony from a Wisconsin resident who took him in to his home before police arrived. WATCH:
Moments before his arrest, Daniel Rider, 24, let Brooks in to his Wisconsin home as he was fleeing the scene of the gruesome crime. Brooks appeared on the young mans doorstep claiming he was waiting for an Uber. Rider was not yet aware of the massacre that had just occurred in the Waukesha parade and chose to let the man in.
‘I gave him a jacket, made him a sandwich and just watched over to make sure everything was okay,’ he told CNN. He also gave the stranger his phone so he could call his mom. Rider said that during the entire encounter, Brooks was polite and that he did not notice that anything was remiss until minutes before the arrest.
“He was so polite. He was nice to me. He listened to everything I told him to do. Now, knowing what he just did moments before that, it’s hard to even wrap your head around.”
A few minutes after Brooks was let in to his home, he started to get nervous as a police car was driving up and down the street. Rider then asked the man to leave. ‘The Uber his mom had called… showed up maybe a minute after he was in cuffs. I just think about sometimes if he had gotten in that car what could have happened” Rider said.
Brooks has been charged with five counts of first-degree intentional homicide with more charges to come as another person died last night. Additional charges relating to the sixth death which emerged last night and the more than 60 people injured will be coming later this week or next, said Waukesha County District Attorney Susan Opper.
