Miracle escape on Miracle Drive! Family escapes uninjured after small plane clips power lines and crashes onto the roof of their home while they were inside

A family in California miraculously survived Wednesday after a small plane crashed into the roof of their Auburn home while they were inside - on a street appropriately named 'Miracle Drive.'

The pilot of the single-engine aircraft, however, who has not yet been named and was the only one aboard the plane, per police, was hospitalized after the incident and is said to have suffered serious injuries.

Officials say the pilot's condition is currently unknown and that he is still receiving treatment following the crash, which occurred around 3:15pm local time Wednesday.

Police add that the craft clipped nearby power lines and near the small one-story house - which they say was occupied when the accident happened - and subsequently plummeted into its roof.

However, somehow the roof held up, and remarkably, everyone involved in the incident survived, Placer County police say.

Coincidentally, the street that houses the home 35 miles outside Sacramento is named Miracle Drive.

'They are so fortunate in this case that the plane did not crash through the home and injure them, so we're saying that they're very lucky,' Placer County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Angela Musallam said of the incident Wednesday afternoon.

'We actually don't know the condition of the pilot.'

The sheriff's office added that they were initially alerted to the incident after their office received a call from an unnamed witness about what the office called a 'suspicious circumstance.'

'Around 3pm, PCSO received a call of suspicious circumstances on the 3000 block of Miracle Drive, in Auburn. Deputies arrived and found a plane had crashed on top of a home,' the office tweeted Wednesday following the crash.

Upon arriving at the scene and discovering the crashed aircraft, deputies eventually discerned the pilot accidentally clipped some nearby power lines and trees directly before the crash, leading to the rough landing in the occupied home's roof, which somehow did not collapse.

The office added that CAL FIRE Nevada-Yuba-Placer Unit agents then 'rendered medical aid to the sole pilot before they were transported to a nearby hospital.'

The home is situated just a few miles from Auburn's Municipal Airport, but police say that the pilot's destination is still currently unclear.

'We do not know where this plane was heading, where this plane was coming from,' Musallam said after the crash.

The office did not disclose the identity of the owners of the house, nor how many people were inside the property at the time of the crash.

Deputies remained at the scene Wednesday until agents from the Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board arrived to investigate the wreck.

The two organizations are now overseeing the investigation.
