Authorities say a city worker was shot in broad daylight in Manhattan over a family dispute; suspects remain at large

 A New York City sanitation worker was shot in broad daylight in Midtown, the New York Post reported, following what was reported to be a "family dispute."

The New York City Department of Sanitation employee was shot in the leg on Thursday after allegedly getting into a dispute with his daughter's ex-boyfriend, the Post reported.

The New York Daily News said that the shooting unfolded when the man received a panicked phone call from his daughter, who was pleading for help after her ex-boyfriend and his brother showed up unannounced at her home.

WNBC-TV reported that the ex-boyfriend and his twin brother accosted the unnamed woman for an undisclosed reason and that the ex's twin reportedly assaulted her following an argument.

The victim, who remains unnamed at the time of this reporting, is 40 years old, according WCBS-TV, and was said to have showed up at his daughter's home in Hell's Kitchen where his daughter's ex met him in the street and shot him in the thigh.

Witnesses told WNBC that the aftermath was an "immediate and massive commotion" with "loud screams and blood all over the sidewalk" following the shooting.

Police are now seeking the whereabouts of the suspect and his brother, who reportedly fled from the scene in a black Mercedes that was reportedly stolen from the victim.

The victim was rushed to nearby Mount Sinai Morningside for treatment of his injuries.

Sanitation spokesman Vincent Gragnani said that he was "relieved" to hear that the victim's injuries were not life-threatening.

"We are relieved to hear that the injuries do not appear to be life-threatening,” he added. “This is an active investigation and we are standing by to assist our partners at NYPD in any way we can.”
