BREAKING: Alberta’s Premier Jason Kenney Suddenly Announces He’s Lifting Covid Restrictions...Claims It Has Nothing To Do with Trucker’s Massive Protest

 Albertans will soon know when they can stop showing their proof of vaccination to get into bars, restaurants, and non-essential services. Today,  Premier Jason Kenney said his government would announce the date Alberta will end its COVID-19 vaccine passports next week.  Kenney will also announce a phased approach to end almost all COVID-19 health restrictions by the end of the month, provided the pressure on hospitals continues to decline.

“As COVID changes, our response to it must change as well,” Kenney told citizens.

Early next week, the COVID cabinet committee will approve a plan to lift restrictions, starting with the Restrictions Exemption Program.

One week ago, Kenney said the passport — known in Alberta as a restriction exemption — could be eliminated by the end of March. There were mixed emotions among Canadians as some saw this as progress, while others felt this should not wait until the end of March.  Many questioned the logic behind Kenney’s decision of the end of March versus ending the passport immediately.

Along with feeling the pressure to change the end of March proposed date, Kenney has been dealing with vaccine mandate protests by truckers and supporters who continue to create traffic tie-ups at Alberta’s main U.S. border checkpoint at Coutts on the Montana border.

Interestingly, Kenney made it clear that governments should not be swayed by protests yet announcing policy changes that protesters are demanding.

“No responsible government makes policy by negotiating with people engaged in such unlawful conduct. Period. Full stop,” he said. “We fully expect our law enforcement agencies to restore and maintain public safety and law and order.”

“While I sympathize with and agree with many of the messages being sent by convoy protests over the past week, let me just underscore that a society built on the rule of law cannot accept protests that block critical infrastructure, that disrupts communities and countless law-abiding citizens,” he said.

Kenney says his government will announce a date to end Alberta’s COVID-19 vaccine passport next week, with the actual cancellation coming soon after that.

Kenney said he would also announce next week a phased approach to end almost all COVID-19 health restrictions by the end of the month, provided the pressure on hospitals continues to decline.

Kenney said Alberta’s high vaccination rate coupled with stabilizing hospital patient numbers make it feasible to end the vaccine passport soon.

“As COVID changes, our response to it must change as well,” Kenney told citizens in a live town hall on his Facebook page Thursday night.

“That is why early next week Alberta will announce a firm date to end the (vaccine passport) and to do so in the very near future.”

Alberta’s program is voluntary, but businesses that do not participate are subject to restrictions, including severely reduced customer capacity.

Since being introduced last September, the passport has created strife within Alberta on balancing public health orders with individual rights and freedoms. The small fringe minority has undoubtedly made it clear which side they are on.
