Congressman Bill de Blasio? The former New York mayor is reportedly considering a bid for US Congress

 Former New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio is mulling a bid for U.S. Congress, according to reports.

De Blasio, a Democrat who recently departed from office after serving as mayor for eight years, announced last month that he would not pursue a gubernatorial bid in the Empire State.

But he may be eyeing a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.

The New York Post has reported that sources said the former mayor has made calls regarding a Democratic primary challenge against former U.S. Rep. Max Rose.

"The Democratic Party is not happy about this. The last thing they want is a primary race where money is wasted and there is mudslinging," a source said on Wednesday, according to the Post. "However, no one is surprised because de Blasio never listens to anyone."

The New York Daily News reported that, according to a source, de Blasio made his possible political aims known in a Wednesday call to a city union leader

"He basically said he’s seriously considering it and to keep him in mind," the source told the outlet.

Another source told the Daily News that the former mayor had contacted longtime campaign donors and civic leaders tied to the district in which he is thinking about mounting a bid.

Rose, who called de Blasio "the worst mayor in the history of New York City" in a campaign ad while seeking re-election to Congress during the 2020 election cycle, issued a fundraising email on Tuesday that discussed a potential challenge from the former mayor.

"Bill de Blasio has never been my biggest fan, but now he might be my primary opponent. I know I laughed at first too, but the implications aren’t funny," Rose wrote, according to the Daily News. "He's a former mayor who has raised millions of dollars over the course of eight very, very long years. We need to show strength now; this race is heating up every day, and we need to stop this from gaining any steam."
