NEW LOW: Canadian Government Threatened to Euthanize Pets of Canadian Truckers
Last Thursday, Canada’s Deputy Prime Minister, Chrystia Freeland, announced that financial institutions are freezing the accounts of people linked to the Freedom Convoy protests in Ottawa. Freeland said these measures are being taken to restrict the funds to organizers and participants, forcing them to retreat from the movement.
Donors to the GoFundMe and GiveSendGo fundraising campaigns for the truckers are also being targeted.
“The emergency measures we put in place are being used… and they will have a growing impact in the days to come,” said Freeland in a press conference on Thursday. Freeland said that she has met with the heads of their major banks, and stressed that their priority is ending the blockades.
Freeland then makes a rather ironic statement:
“Do not doubt our determination to act, to defend out democracy, to defend our economy, and to restore peace, order, and good government.”
Freeland says they want to defend their democracy, while in reality, their government is adopting fascist principles to quell all voices of opposition. Freezing citizens’ bank accounts when they don’t agree with government action is not representative of a democratic society.
The Deputy PM then reiterated what Canadians had been told earlier in the week:
“If your truck is being used in these protests, your corporate accounts will be frozen. The insurance on your vehicle will be suspended. The consequences are real, and they will bite.”
In another press conference, Freeland told Canadian citizens that the only way they are able to unfreeze their accounts is to stop protesting the government’s mandates:
“For anyone who is concerned that their accounts may have been frozen because of their participation in these illegal blockades and occupation, the way to get your account unfrozen is to stop being part of the blockade.”
Pause and think about the implications of a Western government telling its citizens the only way their bank accounts will be unfrozen is if they stop protesting the government. https://t.co/CCYaoVzshv

On Sunday morning, about 200 people involved with the anti-vaccine mandate protests in Ottawa were arrested and almost 100 vehicles were towed.
Following this incident, one Canadian trucker, Derek Brouwer, who was part of the Freedom Convoy, reported that his truck was seized and his bank accounts have been frozen just like the government threatened.
A Canadian civil engineering technician, Robert Dorion, went on Fox & Friends to relay his experiences at the Ottawa protests. Dorion reported the police in Ottawa being “extremely rough” with the peaceful protesters.
Dorion was asked specifically about his thoughts on the government freezing the assets of protest participants. “We only wanted the mandates to be lifted because they go against our constitutional rights,” said Dorion, insisting there was no violence from the protesters despite continuous provocation from the police force.
Dorion then stated his belief that Trudeau invoked the emergency measure act because the protesters wouldn’t allow the police to provoke them and turn the protest into an instance of violence. He also said that he thought the government’s new move of “freezing assets” is “very dangerous”.
“Any government being able to freeze assets as they wish if you’re not doing things the way they want, in my opinion, is far from being democratic and is not what Canada stands for,” said Dorion.
On Sunday, Canadian MP Mark Strahl helped shed light on the individuals behind the bank accounts that have been frozen and the injustice of the government’s actions. Strahl posted on Twitter about a single mom named Briane whose bank account was frozen after making a $50 donation to the convoy.
“Briane is a single mom from Chilliwack working a minimum wage job. She gave $50 to the convoy when it was 100% legal. She hasn’t participated in any other way. Her bank account has now been frozen. This is who Justin Trudeau is actually targeting with his Emergency Act orders.”

Not only are innocent people losing access to their hard-earned money, but people’s pets are also being threatened by the government. On February 17, the city of Ottawa announced their plan to take protesters’ pets, Tweeting out:
“Attention animal owners at demonstration. If you are unable to care for your animal as a result of enforcement actions, your animal will [be] placed into protective care for 8 days, at your cost. After 8 days, if arrangements are not made, your animal will be considered relinquished.”

This ruling seems to be directly aimed at those who are imprisoned due to the protests, as well as a means to force participants to stay home so their pet(s) won’t be taken away. This is a particularly cruel ruling which will likely create a deeper divide between the government and the protesters.
Canadian leaders stood by and praised the BLM riots and their supporters while cities were looted and burned. However, when someone doesn’t agree with their policies, they do everything in their power to silence the dissenting parties.
Although the Canadian government is doing all it can to force its citizens into compliance, Brouwer doesn’t think Canadians will bow to their government so easily. “It seems like many of them are gearing up even more,” he said.
