Trump Warns That Conflict in Ukraine Could Start WWIII, Says It Wouldn’t Have Happened if He Was Still President
Former President Donald Trump is warning that the conflict between Russia and Ukraine could end up starting World War III.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump discussed Russian President Vladimir Putin threatening to use nuclear weapons and asserted that the conflict would never have happened if he was still president.
Putin blamed the West for providing Ukraine with troops and weapons. He also claimed that the North Atlantic Treaty Organization has approved using nuclear weapons on Russia, though he did not provide evidence of such a policy.
“Russia will use all the instruments at its disposal to counter a threat against its territorial integrity—this is not a bluff,” Putin said in a national address on Wednesday.
Addressing his NATO claim, Putin said “to those who allow themselves such statements, I would like to remind them, Russia also has many types of weapons of destruction, the components of which in some cases are more modern than those of the countries of NATO.”
Trump responded to the speech by saying, “President Putin of Russia is now threatening the use of Nuclear Weapons, saying ‘It is not a bluff.'”
“The Ukrainian conflict should never have happened, and would not have happened if I were President,” Trump continued. “But as I have made very clear for quite some time, this could now end up being World War III.”
Joe Biden told the United Nation’s General Assembly on Wednesday that he believes Russia is in violation of the organization’s charter.
“Let us speak plainly: a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council invaded its neighbor, attempted to erase the sovereign state from the map,” Biden said while speaking at the UN headquarters in New York City. “Russia has shamelessly violated the core tenets of the United Nations’ charter, no more important than the clear prohibition against countries taking the territory of their neighbor by force.”
Biden added that a nuclear war must be avoided.
“No matter what else is happening in the world, the United States is ready to pursue critical arms control measures. A nuclear war cannot be won and must never be fought,” Biden said. “Russia’s shun of the nonproliferation ideals embraced by every other nation at the Tenth NPT Review Conference, and again today as I said, they’re making irresponsible threats to use nuclear weapons.”
