‘Blatant Breach Of Trust’: Substitute Teacher Accused Of Giving Student A Black Eye

 A Chicago substitute teacher has been arrested following allegations of a physical altercation with a student on Tuesday, according to CBS Chicago.

A substitute teacher at Jack Benny Middle School allegedly intervened in a physical altercation between two students, hitting 14-year-old Brandon Cole and leaving him with a black eye and broken finger, according to CBS Chicago. A police report is being finished on Wednesday and the teacher has since been arrested. 

“Earlier today there was an incident inside a Jack Benny Middle School classroom involving a physical altercation between a student and substitute staff member,” Waukegan School District #60 Superintendent Theresa Plascencia said in a Tuesday statement. “Let me begin by saying that this type of behavior by any trusted adult in one of our schools is completely unacceptable, and any staff conduct that compromises the safety and well-being of students has not and will not be tolerated.”

“I’m really scared right now, because my teacher hit me in the face, broke my finger, bruised my face,” Cole told CBS Chicago.

Plascencia called the incident a “blatant breach of trust” and said that the teacher will not work in the school district moving forward. Mental health services are available for students who may need it following the event.

Natasha Cole, Brandon Cole’s mother, spoke at a Tuesday press conference with her son, showing the injuries he suffered from the altercation with the teacher, according to WBN9 News.

“I don’t know whether to feel angry, confused, hurt. I don’t know,” Natasha Cole said according to the outlet. “It’s not a thought I would ever think would ever happen to my son, or any of my children.”

Waukegan School District referred the Daily Caller News Foundation to Plascencia’s statement.

Cole’s attorney and the Waukegan Police Department did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
