‘Never Say Their Names’: Biden Claims 6 Republican Senators Secretly Agree With Him At Fetterman Event
President Joe Biden claimed Thursday that six Senate Republicans secretly agree with him about the state of the Republican Party, but that he will “never say their names.”
Biden was speaking at a Pennsylvania campaign reception for Senate candidate John Fetterman, and said there’s a “new Republican party” that “is not your father’s Republican party.”
“I’ve had six Republican senators … and I promised I would never say their names and I will never reveal who they are,” Biden continued. He claimed the senators came to him and said, “Joe I know you’re right. If I vote for you I’ll be primaried by the Trumpites.”
The president spoke in favor of Fetterman at the event and attempted to boost the Democrat’s campaign, saying that Senate Democrats “need 53 votes” and that they “need John badly.” If Democrats don’t win the Senate, Biden said, Republicans will get rid of “lower medical costs” and the Inflation Reduction Act, and are “likely to not continue” funding Ukraine.
Biden reiterated his promise to codify Roe v. Wade into law if Democrats secure majorities in both the House and Senate, and said if Republicans win, “a lot’s going to change.”
“If we do not maintain the Senate and the House in this next election, a lots’ going to change. A lot’s going to change. We’re at a point where there’s not a lot of real Republicans left … The folks running this party are the MAGA Republicans … They have a very different view about the government role,” Biden said.
“We’ve got to get out every single person we know to vote, vote, vote,” he added.
Seventy-nine-year-old Biden and Fetterman, who had a stroke in May, were reportedly not allowed to be videotaped or recorded at the Philadelphia reception.
Fetterman and his opponent, Republican Dr. Mehmet Oz, are neck and neck in the race, with some polls showing the candidates as tied. The president scrutinized Oz, saying the Republican candidate went to high school in Delaware but “Delaware was smart enough to send him to New Jersey,” and that the Republican is “for undoing everything we have done.”
