Joy Behar Says Reporter Should Receive The ‘Peter Doocy Award’ For His Question To New Zealand Prime Minister

 “The View” co-host Joy Behar said Thursday that a reporter should receive the “Peter Doocy award” for his question to the New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Arden.

The panel criticized a reporter’s question to Ardern and Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin during their joint press conference Wednesday. The individual can be heard asking whether they are meeting because they have similar characteristics — namely age.

Behar compared the reporter to Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy for asking the “dumbest” and “most irrelevant question.”

“When we think of all the women who have run countries, I mean, what is this stupid question? Are you meeting because you are two black women? Are you meeting because you both have breasts?” co-host Whoopi Goldberg asked.

“Well, this guy gets the Peter Doocy award for saying the dumbest question, the most irrelevant question, ever asked to a prime minister,” Behar replied.

Behar has not shied away from criticizing Doocy in the past, who is notorious for challenging the White House with tough questions in the briefing room. She sided with President Joe Biden after he called Doocy a “stupid son-of-a-bitch” on hot-mic, claiming the Fox News reporter would be fired by his employer since the president apologized. 

She later targeted Doocy during a June 23 interview with White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, asking whether she had to “swat him down” for his tough questions. Jean-Pierre said she appreciates and enjoys the “give-and-take” as it is part of her job.

Co-host Ana Navarro mocked the question by comparing it to hypothetically asking if the two women plan on “getting manis and pedis together.” She then praised Ardern as a “badass” for her handling of COVID-19 and gun laws.

Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin described the question as “cringe,” saying no one except that one reporter even considered their age or gender.

“They’re clearly getting together to talk about geopolitics, how they’re supporting the Ukraine war effort, how they’re going to support their partners in NATO,” Griffin said. “But we still do this thing where we’re so reductive about women, certainly they can’t be talking about national defense or foreign policy, they’re probably exchanging recipes. I can’t believe in 2022, that’s what we’re doing.”
