Megyn Kelly Blasts Double Standard For Trump And Hillary
Podcast host Megyn Kelly compared the treatment former President Trump has received to the treatment given Hillary Clinton, marking the apparent double standard.
Kelly opined on Monday that Trump’s actions regarding classified documents, which are rumored to be a reason Democrats may aim for a second indictment against him, were problematic but then referred to the targeting of Trump during the 2016 presidential election and Hillary Clinton’s part in it.
“I’m not defending,” she said of Trump. “If he got a subpoena and he had documents, that’s not okay. As a lawyer, you don’t have to persuade me. You’re supposed to treat subpoenas very respectfully … It’s just so aggravating because she has gotten away with so much.”
“We just went through this whole thing where she used her lawyer to go into the FBI and try to sic them on Donald Trump and say that he was using some Russian bank to hide his nefarious dealings,” Kelly recalled. “She’s been using lawyers to do her dirty work forever, and we just generally haven’t had a practice of criminalizing the behavior of somebody in her position. Yes, we’ve sniffed around the lawyers from time to time, but this is everything with him is different.”
Kelly doubled down on Tuesday, telling famed lawyer Alan Dershowitz, “I’m sorry but what about Hillary Clinton? Hillary Clinton destroyed information; federally subpoenaed emails and devices, to hide evidence … What about Hillary? She destroyed documents under subpoena and was given a total pass.”
“I get it it’s bad to ignore a subpoena, never mind not comply with it, or say you have when you haven’t, but why didn’t anybody give a damn when she did it?” she asked.
In September 2016, a report on oversight of the FBI was presented to the House Judiciary Committee. Rep Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) stated:
It seems clear that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton committed multiple felonies involving the passing of classified information through her private email server. The FBI, however, declined to refer the case for prosecution on some very questionable bases. This past Friday afternoon, the FBI released additional investigative documents from the Clinton investigation which demonstrate, among other things, that more than 100 of the emails on Secretary Clinton’s private server contained classified information and that emails required to be preserved under Federal law were, in fact, destroyed.
Secretary Clinton’s decision to play fast and loose with our national security concerned not simply her daughter’s wedding planning or yoga routines but, instead, quoting you, Director Comey, “Seven email chains concerned matters that were classified at the Top Secret/Special Access Program level when they were sent and received.” Top Secret/Special Access Programs contain some of the most sensitive secret information maintained by our government. This is a truly remarkable fact. Were anyone of lesser notoriety than Hillary Clinton guilty of doing this, that person would already be in jail.
