Bill Barr, CNN’s Kaitlan Collins Sit Through Moment Of Dead Silence After He Refuses To Answer Question
Former Attorney General Bill Barr created an awkward moment of silence Wednesday night after CNN’s Kaitlan Collins asked if he has spoken with special counsel Jack Smith, who just indicted former President Donald Trump for the second time.
Trump was charged Tuesday with “Conspiracy to defraud the United States,” “Conspiracy to corruptly obstruct and impede the January 6 proceedings” and “Conspiracy against the right to vote and to have one’s vote counted.”
Barr said the latest charges are “legitimate” and told Collins he believes Trump knew he lost the 2020 election, a direct contradiction to Trump’s allies and lawyers who maintain Trump genuinely believed he won the election and therefore prosecutors cannot prove intent.
“You spoke to the January 6 congressional committee,” Collins said. “Have you talked to Jack Smith’s investigators?”
“I’m not gonna get into that,” Barr said, prompting a long silence as the host stared at him silently.
“I’m not gonna get into that,” Barr reiterated in a whisper, prompting Collins to burst out in laughter before moving to the next topic.
Smith also indicted the former president in June on 37 charges regarding his alleged mishandling of classified documents. Trump pleaded not guilty to all charges.
