‘Life Is So Much Better’: Country Star Jake Owen Talks Sobriety

Country star Jake Owen celebrated being nearly two years sober on Monday with a series of posts. He opened up about the decision to stay away from alcohol and shared that “life is so much better” without it.

In a series of Instagram Stories, the 41-year-old country singer sent a message to those who might be thinking about not drinking anymore as he explained that he’s found that a sober lifestyle is just better for him overall.

“689 days ago, I made a decision,” Owen wrote. “I’ve stuck to it, and I’m really proud of myself. I was not at a point where I had a drinking problem, I was just being an a**hole and being a person I didn’t want to be.”

“Trust me, there’s [probably] someone reading this that I affected in my days of being an idiot and I can never take that back … I said things I shouldn’t, as well as did things I would never do sober,” he added. “I had to own up to those instances and the ONLY thing I could do was be a better person going forward.”

“I just want to encourage any of you that might be considering quitting drinkin that you should!” Owen continued. “Life is so much better. Sleep better. Feel better. Be better. Shoot … I’ll be your supporter. I’ll cheer you on.”

At the end of his posts, he shared a link to an Andrew Huberman’s Lab podcast with the episode “What Alcohol Does to Your Brain, Body and Health.”

He encouraged those who might be ready to turn away from alcohol that the podcast had “some awesome information on why alcohol is terrible for you in general.”

In 2022, the “Made for You” hitmaker talked about his path to sobriety and said that he made the choice to not drink after embarrassing himself after “drinking too much alcohol one night,” the outlet noted.

“317 days ago I embarrassed myself after drinking too much alcohol one night,” Owen wrote at the time. “It wasn’t the first time, either. The next day, I told myself, ‘Never again.’ I am better than that, and the people I love the most deserve better. My family, my little girls and my friends.”

“Just wanted to share my journey in case anyone woke up this morning and wants to make a change,” he added. “None of us aren’t perfect … I’m just trying to be the best version of myself these days.”
