Suspect accused of stomping, severely beating 71-year-old woman. Cops say victim had 'shoe tread prints on her face,' was unable to speak.
A suspect was arrested after being accused of stomping and severely beating a 71-year-old woman in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on Thursday.
What's more, police said the victim was found with "shoe tread prints on her face" and was unable to speak.
What are the details?
Officers responded to multiple calls about an elderly woman being attacked near the intersection of East 21st Street and South Sheridan Road around 5:45 p.m., police said.
Around the same time, a lieutenant in the area was flagged down and found the victim with severe facial, head, and body injuries, police said, adding that the woman had "shoe tread prints on her face and was unable to speak."
Several witnesses were attempting to render aid to the woman, police said, adding that witnesses said they saw a male punching, kicking, and stomping on woman.
Officers searched the area and caught the suspect a few blocks west of the intersection, police said.
The suspect, later identified as Donovan Anderson, said he beat the woman because she said something wrong to him that he did not like, police noted.
"We believe the victim had just gotten off the bus and was walking to her house when the attack happened," police added.
The victim was taken to a hospital and was expected to be okay, police said.
Anderson was arrested on charges of aggravated assault and battery on an elderly person, police also said.
How are folks reacting?
Commenters writing underneath a Yahoo News story about the incident were decidedly disgusted:
- "He will be bond out and do it again," one commenter said.
- "If this had happened in New York, [Manhattan District Attorney] Alvin Bragg would have charged her with damaging his shoes!" another commenter quipped.
- "What did she say that was wrong that he didn't like[?]" another commenter wondered. '"No, you can't have my purse'?"
- "When did we become a people with so little self control?" another commenter asked. "When did we decide it was OK to attack someone for something they say. You could just say, 'Well, that's your opinion' and walk away. This lady is most likely going to suffer for the rest of her life, and her attacker will be in jail for hopefully several decades for assault and elder abuse. Does no one consider consequences, or do they just figure they can ignore them?"
