Trump Fundraising Numbers Released After Mugshot

Former President Donald Trump has raised several million dollars in the 48 hours since he was booked and released from a Fulton County jail on Thursday evening.

POLITICO reported that the campaign’s fundraising was powered largely by merchandise sales that featured the former president’s mugshot. His campaign had threatened to “come after” anyone who used the image to raise money — even though the photo is public domain.

The report said that in the first 24 hours after the mugshot’s release, the campaign had raised $4.18 million — a sum similar to what he raised after his first indictment — and has since hit $7.1 million.

The funds come as recent questions had swirled about the financial situation of Trump’s political operation after recent campaign finance reports showed that his PAC and aligned-PACs have burned through tens of millions of dollars in legal fees to defend the 77-year-old former president in four separate criminal cases.

After the first indictment by the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office earlier this year, the Trump campaign raised $12 million over the following week.

After the second indictment by special counsel Jack Smith from his criminal investigation into Trump’s retention of classified documents after leaving office, the campaign raised approximately $6.6 million in the week that followed.

However, after the third indictment was announced in Smith’s criminal investigation into Trump’s alleged efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election, the Trump campaign has not released fundraising numbers after nearly a full month. The campaign also did not release fundraising numbers after the fourth indictment two weeks ago.
