Washington Post gets torched for blaming Middle East anti-LGBTQ on US conservatives: 'Deeply embarrassing'

The Washington Post was criticized and ridiculed by many on the right over the bizarre framing of the debate over the LGBTQ agenda in the Middle East.

The article attempted to compare efforts in the U.S. against laws intended to enforce the LGBTQ agenda with the response from traditional Muslims in the Middle East to LGBTQ rights.

"LGBTQ+ communities in the Middle East face a growing crackdown, mirroring efforts by American conservatives to restrict the rights of gay and transgender people," read the tweet from the official WaPO social media account.

The tweet received the dreaded "ratio" distinction with only 354 likes in support but more than 1.4k comments.

The article by reporter Mohammed El Chamaa only mentioned the U.S. in passing and tied the rhetoric to other countries like Russia.

Conservatives and others pounced on the questionable comparison to criticize the news outlet for publishing irresponsible propaganda.

"This is deeply embarrassing from the WaPo. Even trying to limit the comparison to Turkey, Jordan, and Lebanon - States where homosexuality is not technically illegal - is so silly," replied writer Kyle Orton.

"This is the perniciousness of left-wing media bias. They can't convince you that it's appropriate to perform gender surgeries on kids or have a drag star twerk for an 8 year old, so they turn to this," responded talk radio host Jason Rantz.

"Finally someone's holding Matt Walsh to account for going back in time and convincing Mohammed the gays are bad," joked another detractor.

"This is terrible! Everyone knows the Middle East was such an open and inclusive place until the American conservatives, always a strong global influence, persuaded them to become more intolerant!" read another sarcastic tweet.

"Yeah, because throwing Alphabet people off of rooftops is *exactly* like telling men they can't go in women's bathrooms or join their sports teams," read another critical tweet.

A recent poll found that the LGBTQ agenda has lost ground among Americans in recent years.
