Wisconsin woman set on fire by boyfriend who threatened to kill her children and family, police say
A woman in Wisconsin suffered serious burns after her boyfriend allegedly set her on fire and threatened to kill her children and family.
The incident unfolded just before 5 p.m. on Sunday at a residence on 86th Place in Salem Lakes when the woman called police to tell them she had been set on fire.
A statement from the Kenosha Sheriff's Department indicated that police responded and transported the woman to a hospital with severe burns to her upper arms, head, and face.
Investigators said that the victim claimed she was lying in bed when Bowie tossed a liquid on her and ignited it.
A police complaint said that there were four young children at the residence who were "crying and making utterances to the effect of their dad did this."
Police began a search for her boyfriend, 36-year-old Myron Bowie, who allegedly threatened to harm the victim's family before setting her on fire.
He was later arrested near Chicago, Illinois. Police said they received numerous tips from the community to find his whereabouts.
Officials said the victim remained in critical condition but is expected to survive.
Residents of the neighborhood were shocked by the violent incident.
"It's scary though, I picture this to be a good class neighborhood, it still is, ya know you got a few bad apples out there," said Rickey Matthews to WTMJ-TV.
"That drastic, that violence… that was, my whole reaction was like wow. Wow. Holy cow," said Donna Kiser.
"She just gotta stay prayed up with her family," said Matthews. "God will be with her."
Bowie was charged with one felony count of attempted first-degree intentional homicide (domestic abuse). He faces a maximum of 60 years in prison if convicted.
