Democratic Staffer Triggered By Border Patrol-Themed Christmas Decor

 A Democratic staffer on Capitol Hill was apparently triggered by the Christmas decorations put up outside a neighboring congressman’s office, calling the U.S. Border Patrol-themed display “insensitive, charged and insulting.”

Jason Tufele Carl Johnson, who works in communications for Rep. Raul Grijalva (D-AZ), objected to the decor outside Rep. Eli Crane’s (R-AZ) office in a post he shared on X — complete with photos of the offending display.

“Normally Longworth 2nd floor Christmas decorations are a bipartisan and amiable contest,” Johnson complained. “Rep. Eli Crane’s office has the most insensitive, charged and insulting Christmas decor I’ve ever seen in my 5 years on Capitol Hill.”

The display showed several glittery elf figures standing atop a brick “border wall.” A sign on one door read, “Have documents ready,” and another read, “Border Patrol elves only.” A large “Port of Entry” sign was displayed over the door to Crane’s office.

Rep. Grace Meng (D-NY) joined Johnson in complaining about the display, saying, “This is how Republicans choose to use their time and resources in the halls of Congress. This is disgusting and dehumanizing rhetoric, and as a fellow member of Congress, I can think of so many better uses of our time than hanging up crude signs.”

Others poked fun at Johnson, suggesting that perhaps he was taking the holiday decorating contest a bit too seriously.

 

“I’m really sorry this is happening to you. I know firsthand how insulting it must be to see border security themed Christmas decorations. Praying for you in this trying time,” Greg Price said.

“We got Democrat congresscritters siding with Hamas and he’s worried about Christmas decorations. Cry harder,” Erick Erickson pointed out.

Abigail Jackson, Communications Director for Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) defended the decor and asked a pointed question: “1. These decorations rock; 2. Why is a secure border w legal ports of entry ‘insulting’ and ‘insensitive’??”
