Georgia Student Allegedly Murdered By Illegal Immigrant. CNN Says ‘Little Evidence Indicating A Connection Between Immigration And Crime’

A young female Augusta University nursing student was murdered on her morning jog, and an illegal immigrant has been arrested in connection with the murder, but CNN insisted on downplaying any connection between illegal immigration and the murder.

The body of Laken Riley, 22, was found last Thursday with indications of blunt force trauma. Jose Antonio Ibarra, 26, who hailed from Venezuela and illegal entered the U.S. in September 2022 but was paroled into the U.S., has been named as a suspect in the murder. Last year the NYPD arrested Ibarra and he was “charged with acting in a manner to injure a child less than 17 and a motor vehicle license violation.”

But CNN’s Monday report stated, according to Fox News, “Ibarra’s status as an undocumented Venezuelan migrant is now being touted by several state and national GOP leaders to support their calls for tighter border security – though there is little evidence indicating a connection between immigration and crime.”

On Saturday, Georgia GOP governor Brian Kemp fired off a letter to President Biden regarding Riley’s death. He wrote:

Dear Mr. President: As I have stated many times in the past, your actions and those of your administration have resulted in every state in the country experiencing the disastrous impacts of an unsecured U.S. southern border. More than nine million illegal immigrants have crossed the border since you took office – additional, unknown number of migrants who were not detained and processed – while at least 58 people on the terror watchlist have been encountered between ports of entry this fiscal year alone. Moreover, nearly two thousand pounds of fentanyl and five thousand pounds of methamphetamines were seized at the border in just the month of January. In addition to the serious national security implications of this crisis, the increased burden on state and local resources is not only unsustainable, it also presents a clear and present danger to our citizens and communities.

After noting the arrest of Ibarra, Kemp pointed out that he had joined 24 other governors last September in a letter to Biden requesting “accurate, detailed, thorough data and information” regarding all illegal border crossings, relocation efforts, and how asylum claims were being processed. Another letter from the governors outlined actions Biden could take to secure the southern border.

“Frankly, Mr. President, your continued silence in response to these reasonable requests is outrageous,” Kemp charged. “The American people deserve to know who is illegally entering our country due to your administration’s failures, and what risks and challenges every state must now face.”

Kemp then listed a series of questions related specifically to Laken Riley’s murder.

“These tragedies are not unique to Georgia,” he declared. “While we will continue to support Texas with National Guard resources as we have since 2019, federal action to secure the border is the only way to holistically address this ongoing crisis and ensure Laken Riley’s horrible fate is not replicated across the country. However, if you continue to refuse to exercise your authority as president, your administration must provide the information necessary for Georgia and other states to protect our citizens.”
