Canadian Conservative Leader Kicked Out Of House Of Commons For A Day After Calling Trudeau A ‘Wacko’
Canadian Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre was booted from the House of Commons for the day on Tuesday after a heated exchange where he refused the House Speaker’s request that he remove from the record his comment calling Prime Minister Justin Trudeau a “wacko” and “extremist.”
During a question period in the House of Commons, Poilievre described the government’s drug policy as a “wacko policy [pushed] by this wacko prime minister” to the applause of his conservative colleagues. Speaker Greg Fergus of the Liberal Party, however, took exception to Poilievre’s remark and asked him to withdraw it because it was “unparliamentary language.”
“There are a couple of things that are going on here today that are not acceptable,” Fergus said. “And I ask all members, please, to control themselves.”
“I’m going to ask the honorable leader of the opposition to withdraw that term which is not considered parliamentary,” he added.
Poilievre responded, saying he would replace “wacko with extremist,” but the Liberal speaker did not accept the Conservative leader’s suggestion, again asking Poilievre “to just withdraw that comment.”
“I’ll replace it with radical,” Poilievre said.
“I’m not asking you to replace. I’m asking the honorable member to just simply withdraw.”
“Mr. Speaker, I replace the word ‘wacko’ with ‘extremist,'” the Conservative Leader repeated.
Speaker Fergus once more asked Poilievre to withdraw his comment, but he refused. Fergus then ordered Poilievre to withdraw from the House for the day “for disregarding the authority of the chair.”

After Poilievre was removed, the Conservative Party caucus also left the House en masse, CBC reported. The Conservative Party leader posted on X following his removal and again called Trudeau a “wacko” prime minister.
“Today the Liberal speaker censored me for describing Trudeau’s hard drug policy as wacko,” he said. “6 people dying from overdoses every day in BC is wacko. Kids playing next to used syringes is wacko. Nurses worried about breastfeeding after breathing in toxic drug fumes is wacko. This is a wacko policy from a wacko PM that’s destroying lives.”
Earlier in the day, Trudeau called Poilievre a “spineless” leader who is “pandering” to “white nationalists,” arguing that he is attempting to “earn votes through personal attacks,” according to the Toronto Star. The prime minister alluded to a video showing Poilievre at a Canadian protest camp where an image of a group considered to be an extremist organization was displayed.
“I always condemn extremism and racism, including from the guy who spent the first half of his adult life as a practicing racist dressing up in hideous racist costumes,” said Poilievre, referring to photos of Trudeau in blackface from the early 2000s.
Conservative Rachael Thomas was also booted from the House of Commons earlier in the day after she said Speaker Fergus was acting “in a disgraceful manner.”
