Top Democrat Megadonor Rallies Behind Biden: ‘I Continue To Support President Biden’s Re-Election Effort’
A top Democrat megadonor said on Friday that she is continuing to back President Joe Biden amid calls by some in the party to have him removed from the top of the ticket.
Billionaire real estate heiress Amy Goldman Fowler, who is one of the party’s largest donors, told The New York Times: “I continue to support President Biden’s re-election effort and I am making my maximum contribution to his campaign today.”
Goldman Fowler has given $27 million to Democrats over the course of her life and said she plans to give another $400,000 to Biden’s re-election effort.
“You probably have not heard of Amy Goldman Fowler, but she is a *way* bigger donor than people you have heard of,” said New York Times reporter Teddy Schleifer. “A lot of ink gets spilled in this business on mega-donors who are more bark than bite. This one is the precise opposite.”
Biden has been trying to quiet voices from inside his party who are beginning to push for him to be replaced as the party’s nominee before the Democrat Party’s convention following his disastrous debate performance last week against former President Donald Trump.
Biden conducted an interview with ABC News on Friday that earned him mixed reviews from people who were looking for him to prove that his debate performance was just a fluke.
While many of them conceded that his performance was a step up from how he looked in the debate, they said that it was not enough to ease concerns that many in the party have about his cognitive abilities moving forward.
