Biden: No Plans To Pardon Myself; May Issue Preemptive Pardons For Trump Opponents

 President Joe Biden claimed on Friday that as his failed presidency comes to an end, he has no plans to pardon himself — but he may issue preemptive pardons to some opponents of President-elect Donald Trump.

Biden made the remarks during a press conference from the White House when asked if he has “ruled out a pardon for yourself or any other additional members of the family.”

Reporter: “On pardons, have you ruled out a pardon for yourself or any other additional members of the family?”

“For myself?” Biden asked. “Well, why should I pardon myself?”

“No, I have no contemplation of pardoning myself or anything,” he claimed. “I didn’t do anything wrong.”

Biden said last summer that he would not pardon his son, convicted felon Hunter Biden, but later went back on his word following the election.

When asked if he could give reporters a sense of what additional pardons he was considering giving, Biden said the answer was “no.”

 

“It depends on some of the language and expectations that Trump broadcast in the last couple of days here as to what he’s going to do,” Biden said. “The idea that he would punish people for not adhering to what he thinks should be policy as related to his well-being, is outrageous, but there’s still consideration of some folks that — nothing — but no decision.”
